2024 Reflections - 2025 Collecting Goals

I realize in my original post, I did not speak to sales goals…only to what I want to acquire this year.

For selling I’d gladly sell of most of my collection for the right price. But that’s just not going to happen in 2025.

What I really need to do is stop my collection from growing. It would be great if ended the year with less books than I started. It’s been a very long time since that last happened…if ever.

So going to focus on just moving inventory on eBay and Mercari…new purchases limited to reads, or short term flips. Almost no spec’ing. Maybe limit myself to one or two books a month…one copy each…limited to cover price.

I also want to sell several slabs I bought years ago thinking they were good investments…but now I’d rather a raw book as a reader copy…fortunately most I bought pre-boom and should not be taking much of a loss…if at all.

These should be enough to fund my purchase this year without spending much.

A couple of “stretch” goals would be to set up at one local show just to see if I can move some stock I don’t want to list on eBay. Also start making an inventory of what I have….doubt I’ll get to either of those. Can’t find time To read what I have…forget about inventory….

Don’t worry, I think a lot of my stuff will be sold locally (or i’m hoping here on CHU so CHU members snag my rock bottom price deals) to me rather than listing on eBay and such. I’m not even looking to make tons of profit, just want the shit out of my closet.

40+ years off and on collecting, I just had my first ever comic book dream just a few minutes ago. I was at a con and purchased my first ever Golden Age book, the all time classic Rhino vs Punisher #1 from Charlton comics. Has a cover price of 10 cents. Couldn’t believe my luck and purchased it for $20, sold it afterwards for fat profits.

Going to amend my 2025 goals and will be looking to dab my nose in Golden Age. The universe trying to tell me something.

I love golden age books. Have been grabbing golden age horror, Batman, and Shazam books.

Shout out to Hotflips that runs a show in Babylon, Long Island every few months.
I did his convention show today for the 1st time in my effort to unload with cash sales.
Lots of great vendors
Excellent table fees
Bought pizza for all vendors
And gave these 4 comics away to every vendor.
A wonderful experience and a whole bunch of attendees.

Ironically I have sold about 13 books on Mercari since Jan 1 and 1 book on eBay. Again all stuff I paid dirt cheap for and able to get $10-15 each off.

I’ve been the opposite, selling more on eBay than Mercari

I haven’t made a sale on Mercari since April…of 2023.

A bunch of different lady death, some cave woman, a ROTLD Mark Spears, and some other comics sold on Mercari. Most of these just sit on eBay. I scored a bunch of signed Lady Death Variants for $3 each with COA a while ago, bought out a dealers stock. Maybe like 50 copies total. Have been selling them here and there on Mercari. Its nice

You all are getting me motivated! I generally need to get off my ass lol i need to lose weight and get so much stuff listed that i have been sitting on. That’s my 2 goals

I need to lose weight bad. And shave. I look like a well fed homeless man.

I just look well fed.

Did you move to downtown LA?

Why did you see me?

I don’t know. From the sounds of it there are fifty of “you” in the area at any given time. Like Santa, maybe they are your helpers… CHU elves.

I had a good January in comic sales and picked this up. Delivered today. Got the most expensive book on my 2025 list out of the way.

My goal was NM-, but I started to wane a bit thinking “if it’s a PC book, why not settle for a nice 8.0 to 8.5?” Then this book fell into my lap for a fair price. The fact that it is a lower CGC number also gave me confidence that the grade was accurate (I avoid 44’s and up now).

Now that it’s in hand I don’t think it’s ever been pressed, and might have a shot at 9.4. It’s really nice! One unfortunate color breaking spine tick is really what’s holding it back from a 9.6 (you can see inner the upper staple in the pic). Presents great. WHITE PAGES!

So mostly down hill from here for goals in 2025. Sales are a bit slow lately so may not see a new book for a while. But I’ll go in the hole a little bit if I have to if the right deal comes along!

How can you tell? I want to know what you see before buying a graded book.

I was kinda iffy about getting the Batman 423 cuz I thought it was fake and to good to be true of a price lol.
