I thought Big Planet Comics went under.
That could be old.
It’s next week’s books. Posted yesterday to their Facebook page.
I was joking. I know a DC area store sold their location to Third Eye. I thought it might have been them but guess now.
Any recommended shops to hit in Denver? Is Mile High worth the effort?
I live in Denver, Mile High is neat to look at but I rarely find a good deal there. Vision Comics and Oddities is a pretty cool shop I hit up a lot. He’s moving to a new location this month so I think he’s got a lot of sales going on at the moment ![]()
Like Sadsurfer said, cool to go check out (Milehigh) as it’s huge with lots of things. The amount of times I’ve been to Denver and never checked it out until this past May when I was in town. It was fun but I felt like I needed to wash up after leaving and most things are way overpriced. Still worthy in checking out though just for looking and saying you’ve been there. That’s the only reason I kind of went finally…
Mile High is cool b/c it’s HUGE but they rarely have anything worth what they’re asking for it. Time Warp Comics in Boulder is prob the best low key shop for finding stuff and they price with Overstreet price guide so for the most part you can get some steals on things that have just heated up on Ebay. I also like I Want More Comics in Thornton but be aware sometimes they price at the counter.
I stopped at Mile High, but IMO that’s a fairly underwhelming experience. The place is huge, but like people said, prices are outrageous. And the comic back issues are surprisingly limited. I didn’t find one book I wanted, regardless of price. It’s a huge building, but it seems like the majority of comics are all in the warehouse area that you can’t go into. Paying for that much space must be why books are so pricey.
To give a sense of price, they had a TMNT Last Ronin 1 1:10 for $500. Those are on eBay for $40-60.
All of this is spot on. It was disappointing from just about every metric for me. Barely any new releases, either. I honestly wonder what their plan is when Chuck can’t run the shop anymore.
To me, Mile High is just a big shop/warehouse for someone who has too much money (or likes to waste money) on his vast collection and really doesn’t want to let any of it go for the most part but instead show it off. When the owner Chuck goes on, I"m sure the first thing that happens is all the inventory will be liquidated in a huge sell off.
