Yes and no… Lunar limited the number of variants Keenspot can have so there will still be some books only available through Diamond. Like Mark Spears Monsters #6 Blank, Metal cover, and holofoil vampirella.
Oh and I just looked and Dynamite isn’t on FoC now at Diamond, it was there earlier in the week.
Lunar caps the number of covers on independents to like 3 main plus a limited number of ratio covers because of the extra work it takes them to store, process, and handle them. I think it’s the biggest reason Dynamite didn’t find a home there. They would have to change their whole business model.
False. Look up Chamberlains (9 covers) by the same publisher as Monsters. It’s an obvious miscommunication or lie that Keenspot told Spears. My guess is Keenspot had to negotiate a deal with Diamond to leave them if they had some contract to be their sole distributor.
That’s what I was thinking as well, but at the expense of your employees or company? That’s just poor business sense. Hopefully there is more to the story, maybe he couldn’t move away from Diamond?
We are barely halfway through the year and so much has gone down with Diamond since the bankruptcy officially began in January. I wonder what these next six months hold…
Keenspot had their Chamberlains book have unlimited variant options. Keenspot lied or miscommunicated to Spears about his transition to Lunar.
It’s more likely Dynamite was benefiting for so long from shady Diamond practices that it was best to stay. I’d be good with Dynamite dying with Diamond. Shit publisher.
Hadn’t bought anything Dynamite since Lone Ranger series over 10 years ago. So yeah, as they’re not my cup of tea and wouldn’t go as far as to say they’re a shit publisher since some might like their stuff, I myself won’t notice if they just kind of vanish off face of the planet…
Not to sound overly sensitive, but you all are pretty callous and cavalier at the idea of a significantly sized publisher possibly folding. That would set a definite tone for the comic industry and cast a shadow that would make other publishers nervous to take any risks–because Dynamite does do the annoying variants but has put out some cool experimental stuff too. It would impact a lot of work for those who work in comics too. This isn’t some tiny indie publisher consisting of two full-time employees. Any jobs in comics are important and if one publisher suffers, others will too in my opinion.
If it’s due to the owners own negligence in trusting in Diamond when comic shops were BEGGING for them to leave and they didn’t, sorry I don’t feel bad for Dynamite as a whole, just for the employees.
Dynamite is the most annoying publisher to place FOC orders and perform fulfillment for a shop. My workload will be lessened without their ridiculous variants.
And, the comic community can put their money towards better product. In several years, I’ve heard of one good Dynamite book, Space Ghost.
