Forgot to mention this book. 3D reprint of NM98. Not a lot of shops selling it. Might be hard to find upon release.
Thank you always for the time and effort you put in to doing this for everyone to read. I appreciate it!
I want to check out that Graveyard Club but I’m really trying to be better about ordering new stuff and I hate that $9.99 price tag.
I really hope Namor is good. That A cover for the series is really, really nice as well. Aaron is a good writer and I’ve always found the whole “under the sea” aspects of both Namor and Aquaman very cool/tons of potential if done right. Fingers crossed.
Another thought…I really think a few of these Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe could be long term winners. I always tend to think of that Deadpool Elsa on the Beach cover that was open order and goes for like $80 bucks now. People love Deadpool and these funny covers are actually done pretty well. I know that when I’m selling comics at shows, more often than not, it is Deadpool comics that I end up selling to fans just because they love the character/the cover and don’t even collect comics like many of us do.
That seems hefty, even if it is only two chunky issues. That’s like a small trade paperback in price.
Dirty D’s FOC 6/23/24
Hello my fellow CHU friends and family! It’s been a scorcher of a week (weather, not comics), so I hope everyone is finding ways to beat the heat! I can’t say the same for comic speculation for this weeks FOC, but as always we can still break down some sweet covers, good reads and just overall fun books that may be worth picking up in about 30 days time.
Covers
Captain America #11 (Weapon X-traction Variant)
We start things off with a nice cover swipe/homage of Hulk 340. I’m sure this will be a popular cover his month. Dirty D Cover-of-the-Week!!
Superman #16 (Villalobos Variant)
Zatanna makes a guest appearance in this issue, so there are multiple covers with her featured. I find that this Lobos cover stands out above them all.
Number Ones
Eddie Brock and his son Dylan are going head-to-head, determined to be the one, true Venom! Father versus son in a showdown of showdowns that threatens to tear the world asunder!
I believe this is a 5 book limited series that also splinters off into other “Venom War” minis. Take your pick of covers on this. There are quite a few.
This is a book about mutants living past the end of their world and into a new beginning. This is MS. MARVEL embracing her mutant life in the neon streets of the Lower East Side. This is ANOLE trying to keep his head above water. This is WOLVERINE in the shadows of Bushwick, protecting her own. This is PRODIGY writing history as it happens - and SOPHIE CUCKOO finding her own way.
A new ongoing series set in Mutant Town, District X, NYC.
Also multiple covers. Take your pick.
Dark Knights of Steel Allwinter #1 (of 6)
The legendary assassin Deathstroke stalks a frozen wasteland, killing for coin among a nation of ever-warring jarls. But when our murderer for hire finds himself cast in the role of reluctant guardian, will he fight to end the icy curse destroying his land or be consumed by the sins of his own dark past?
The Dark Knights of Steel epic expands into new territories featuring Deathstroke.

Crisis on Infinite Earths #4 (Facsimile - Foil Variant)
For those collecting the Foil versions of this series facsimile’d.
Secret Wars #8 (Facsimile - Foil Variant)
It took 8 months to get here…FINALLY Secret Wars 8 foil fax edition. Should look spectacular with that red cover!
Scarlett #1 (of 5) (2nd Printing Cover A)
For those like myself who prefer the Jason Howard white background character Spotlight 2nd print covers for Energon Universe books, Scarlett #1 follows suit. Cover A features Scarlett and Cover B (my favorite) features Stormshadow.
Cover C is also a nice Howard cover featuring the two above, plus Snowjob (one of the best Joe names…) and the ninja Jinx who were both re-introduced in this issue.
Scarlett #1 (of 5) (2nd Printing Cover B)
Scarlett #1 (of 5) (2nd Printing Cover C)
Pick of the Week
Blackstone. A city whose history dates back to the earliest days of our nation. Below its abandoned skyscrapers and crumbling colonial architecture, beneath the buzzing lights and ragged billboards, the metropolis is propped up by corruption and fear. Blackstone public defender Jaime Nuñez - former baseball hero, now a divorced dad - is always trying to do his best. When Jaime comes into an unexpected fortune and some surprising, super heroic tools, he discovers there might be another, more direct way to do some actual good in the world. But can the masked man known only as The Dusk push back against decades of entrenched corruption without compromising his commitment to social justice?
No books really stood out to me having much potential short or long term…so I fully admit this a bit of a long shot. That being said, The Dusk is an interesting book. Sort of borrows from Batman origin, and it’s by Scout whose track record isn’t great for speculation, but they don’t have much history with super hero stories. Also, like other previous scout titles they are just publishing issue #1, then going straight to TPB for the series. Which means shops may not be interested in ordering many copies if it’s not going to draw in customers monthly…this could fly under the radar for a while.
But it is a super hero book, and that means TV Series/Movie potential. Might be worth grabbing a copy. You never know, might even be a good read.
The variant cover features an additional female character (side kick?), so worth a look as well.
Honorable Mention
LUKE…JOINS THE DARK SIDE?!
It is said there can be only two SITH, the EMPEROR AND DARTH VADER. But could it someday be PALPATINE and LUKE SKYWALKER? Or Vader and his son?
I was thinking the other day, if you look at all the Jedi is there one that hasn’t been either tempted by the dark side or “lost their way” to some degree…whether it be supporting children be “taken” from their families, or allowing themselves to essentially become soldiers to war? Luke may be the only one that’s never been “corrupted” by other Jedi…He’s never been a Padawan to a “master” and only spent limited time being trained and influenced by other Jedi…basically he essentially has been free to figure out his own path for the most part.
Then this books solicitation comes out eluding he may be joining the dark side, so as Force Ghost Ben once said…”l was wrong…”.
Either way, we know Luke’s temptation will be fleeting at best…could be a fun read, so I’ll throw this book into the mix for those who may be curious what a Dark Side Luke May look like.
And on that note, have a great week everyone…stay cool!
the girl on Dusk is Impossible Jones – she’s had a Scout series, a couple one-shots, and Kickstarter already.
Good to know. So…does scout have some type of super hero universe going on in its books. I’ve only know scout (US comics) to be stand alone story arcs.
I think this is part of their Binge books, the produce one standalone and the rest are part of a TPB. I am personally not a fan of these because I have bought them before to find out that I have to buy the tab to get the rest of the story, including the issue I already bought. All books are creator owned and not part of a greater universe.
I will forever argue that every image book is somehow in one shared universe. Even if it seems logistically impossible they all somehow are in the same universe!
On Behalf of D-Rog here is this weeks FOC Highlights
This one by RAHZZAH is pretty dope.
It’s interesting to me that there wasn’t a 1:25 for the Werewolf by Night series #1 (yet there is that incredible 1:50 by Dekal)
The 1:50 checked all boxes for me, but typically I would get a bundle of 50 books from my shop which is nice when I end up with 2 of the 1:25.
Of the 6 covers for the #1 only three of the open orders are good (imo of course). I think long term I likely overpaid for my pre order on the incentive but, like I said, Elsa/WWBN & Dekal are high on my list so… what’s a fellow to do.
Picks for 7/21/24
Hey my CHU friends! Getting this out a bit late this week…later than my usual lateness…so going to skip the small talk and jump right into the picks this week’s FOC!
Covers
Do you think if CGC witnessed Dog Pool putting his print in ink on a cover of this book, it’d get a yellow label? How can you not love this little guy?! Just a few more days and we’ll see this guy on the big screen! Cover of the week!!
I like this cover, not only because it’s pitting two ghost riders against each other, but it’s got that Silver Surfer 4 homage feel to it.
Ultimate Spider-Man #8 (Luciano Vecchio Variant) 2
Kingpin gathers his own Sinister Six, starting with this book. And it looks like all of the members are on this cover. I almost didn’t see Mysterio back there.
Here’s a book that doesn’t come out until September. And it has a lenticular variant. I assume the images show are the lenticular movements. Could be under ordered.
Reprints
Apparently this is a negative space variant…not a lot of negative space to be had here.
Secret Wars facsimiles still going strong.
Another classic key gets the foil fax treatment. There is an odd Beetlejuice variant as well. That’s different.
Indy Spotlight
A manga-influenced teen adventure set in the strange post-apocalyptic America… of 1955. From the team behind the seminal Vertigo series American Vampire! What got my attention here was this is written by Scott Snyder with art by Rafael Albuquerque.
Pick of the Week
No never-before-seen EXCEPTIONAL X-MEN to see here!Per Marvel.com this series will introduce three all-new mutants who turn to Kitty and Emma for help with their emerging gifts: the metallic and whip-wielding Bronze, the emotion-stirring Axo, and the stealth-skilled fighter Melee!
I believe all three are on cover A and will appear in this book. No brainer Dirty D Pick-Of-The-Week here.
Also, the Bronze open order variant cover also feature one new character (see below). But just be warned it has virgin ratio variant as well, so I’m sticking with Cover A.
Parting Words
That’s it for this week. This was a bit rushed, so add your own picks on the comments if I missed anything!Dirty D’s FOC 7/28/24
Hey my CHU friends! We’ve had some slow weeks recently, but this week may just make up for it! So many books to highlight I had to cut a few from my list!
Covers
Tedesco has been providing B covers for Wonder Woman lately. Although I’m not a fan of all his covers, he’s got that painting style (like Joshua Middleton) where even simple poses have so much depth and character. This is one of those. And for that reason this is the Dirty D Cover-of-the-Week!
A close second place goes to this cover. I like the white background with this action shot of Gwen fighting/facing off with a symbiote (not sure which one).
I know it’s hard to keep up with Dynamites 1000 variants for every book, but this one is worth noting. An FOC variant of the original Marvel Star Comics issue #1 (with Jaga swapped out for Calica).
Wolverine #1 (Pat Gleason Adamantium Head Foil Variant)
I know I said I was cutting back on the foil covers, but this one is a new spin on the Pat Gleason web head variants. So could look pretty cool.
Celebrate IDW’s 500th issue of Star Trek comics (and an early Star Trek Day!) with this landmark oversized anthology issue! This collection of five short stories spans through fan-favorite eras of the beloved franchise from Lower Decks to Strange New Worlds, legacy characters from The Next Generation and the original series, written and illustrated by Star Trek comics veterans and new voices alike.Even though this is mostly reprinted material, I think this cover would be fun to get a bunch of signatures on. Starting with Patrick Stewart and William Shatner.

I highlighted this book a few FOCs ago…looks like it was pushed out. Every full-color page has been meticulously converted to classic red-and-blue 3D by Anomaly Productions.
Batman Day
I don’t really get the whole Batman Day thing. We already have FCBD, Halloween Fest and Local Comic Shop Day…why do we need a day devoted to Batman?
Either alway, there are a few books worth mentioning.
This was a hot book when it came out in 2017. And this is a new “Noir” cover for Batman Day.
In case you missed out on the last facsimile edition of this book. I wish they’d mix it up a bit and do a white or silver or gold foil…
First Appearances
Venom War Zombiotes #1 (of 3) (Campana Variant)
As the two Venoms face off, a darker strain of symbiote has slithered across New York City…one that can reanimate the dead and turn the living into an engine of mindless hunger with just one bite! That’s right - zombie symbiotes making symbiote zombies!A spin on Marvel Zombies. Should be some first symbiotes as Zombies in this book. I like this particular cover as it’s an homage to ASM 316.
Venomverse Reborn #3 (of 4) (Chew Symbiote Variant
First up, the tragic tale of Venom’s biggest fan! Then a surprising tail of Venom Rex! Finally, the reveal of the all-new symbiote who fights Spider-Verse breakout star, Web-Weaver.New symbiote, which I believe is on the Chew variant cover (which is also on Cover A.). FYI, the 1:100 incentive is a virgin of this cover.
Don’t miss the reveal of the final member of the group on the last page!Sounds like we have ourselves a cameo here. Not sure if this character appears on any of the covers, though.
Introducing the master of the Mind Stone - WORLDMIND!New villain, I believe. Normally wouldn’t care but he/she is connected to an infinity stone.
Phases of the Moon Knight #1 (of 4) (Bressan Variant)
An all-new Moon Knight from the Marvel Universe’s ancient past: the Moon Knight of the Old Crusades! Forged in the crucible of a holy war.A new Moon Knight. Not featured on Cover A, but featured on these covers
Phases of the Moon Knight #1 (of 4) (Design Variant)
Indy Spotlight
A couple of books peeked my interest this week. I’ll let the solicitations tell the story.
Meet Ryker Ruel, an enigmatic, lecherous, and clinically insane sociopath who is suddenly in possession of a top-secret device that can freeze time! Now, as the bodies of world leaders pile up, famous works of art go missing, and other strange crimes dominate the headlines, only the device’s creator, a run-of-the-mill science geek, knows what’s happening and sets out to stop Ryker’s seemingly endless revenge tour. If you could stop time, what wouldn’t you do?
Lilith is an immortal who’s been banished from her home, a dimensional plane suspiciously similar to mankind’s idea of Hell. She’s been posing as a model on Earth while secretly preying on humans… that is, until she runs into Penelope, a sweet bookstore owner with a tome that might hold the secret to returning Lilith to her dimension. If the mismatched pair doesn’t end up falling in love first!
Pick of the Week
Jedi Knight Reath Silas and Jedi Padawan Amadeo Azzazzo are charged with delving into the Jedi Archives to learn more about the mysterious Echo Stones and their Force-amplifying powers. In their search, they uncover the dark legend of the ancient Sith Lord, Darth Ravi, and his quest to solve an ancient puzzle that could grant him power beyond imagining… or destroy him utterly.First appearance and cover of a new Sith. Checks both boxes. Plus sith are usually the most popular of Star Wars firsts, and it’s coming from dark house who tend to have lower print runs than Marvel Star Wars books.
Parting Thoughts
Bigger week than usual. I’m exhauste! Going to bed now. Have a great week! Also to note from your Pick of the Week, there are no additional covers, no variants and no exclusives…
That is pretty much a perfect first appearance. I’ll definitely be grabbing some of those.
That Batman and Elmer Fudd comic was a piece of surreal genius.
Its one of the best Batman books of all time.
