Dirty D's F.O.C

It’s the approach in the way it’s said by some. When someone says an actual appearance isn’t an appearance, that’s just exhausting because it’s simply not true. Saying a cameo isn’t a ā€œtrue appearanceā€ā€¦ wtf does that suppose to mean? It is basic common sense… and it’s just being pedantic when people want to argue that a cameo or silhouette isn’t an actual appearance… :man_facepalming:

Yup. Every field or body of knowledge has its generally accepted parlance. And, in ours, comic book collecting, words like appearance and cameo have been co-opted. It’s a fool’s errand to try to change decades of terminology.

I’m not actually saying do away with cameo or other terms to describe the appearance, my thing is when people argue it’s ā€œnot an appearanceā€ while saying it’s a cameo of whatever they’re calling it. That’s when I start pulling my hair out… a cameo is an appearance and it could be a first appearance, could be a cameo for the second appearance too…

now did the mr sinister cameo

Destro cameo in GIJoe 11 is the king of all cameos.

15 panels of cameo…

Dr. Claw beats that… in the original Inspector Gadget cartoon, we only see his hands and arms mostly from behind his chair, never seeing what he actually looks like from any other angle. I guess for some, he’s never made a ā€œtrue appearanceā€ in the cartoon…

While he was forever in cameo, his true face is disappointing.

There was an action figure released that revealed it, but the packaging was the ultimate troll

Finally revealing the mystery of Dr Claw

That is a mystery .

What do you think?

To cameo or not to cameo, now that is the question

Cindy Moon is up there with cameos…

I think he was in Zoolander.

You’re right. I recall he’s on the cover of one of the variants.

Dammit. I thought that he had…but forgot about that book and my search on the internet did not bring that up…

Last time I trust the internet…

Tax day is quickly approaching. Just sent mine in this evening, leaving little time for throwing together an FOC list. Oh, and we will no longer be linking comics to TFAW, as they are shutting down their online ordering.

Hang on, here we go!

COVERS

STL374551

TRANSFORMERS #1 - Sound Chip Edition (Optimus Prime Foil Variant)
Normally the cover of the week would be reserved for great artwork, but this book, a reprint of Image issue #1, will include a sound chip of the transforming noise! Hopefully it’s the cartoon, and not the movies.

Highlighting the Optimus Prime cover because…well…it’s Prime! But there is also a Decepticon (Starscream) variant.

(Note: These sound byte covers are $19.99 retail)

STL374553

VOID RIVALS #1 - Sound Chip Edition (Foil Variant)

Supposedly the Transformers #1 will have a different sound file than the Void Rivals reprint.

STL374542

DC X SONIC #1 (2nd Print - Flash Variant)
Cool mash-up cover, Sonic as Flash. Not too many shops offering this online, from what I can find.

STL373882

MARK SPEARS MONSTERS #1 (5th Printing Horror of Dracula Variant)
His covers outside of Monsters have fizzled a bit. But he’s still hitting it out of the park on this series.

FACSIMILES

MORE FUN COMICS #73 - Facsimile Edition (Foil Variant)

PICK OF THE WEEK

X-MEN #16
There are mutants who call themselves X-Men in Alaska and Louisiana and Chicago. But as Cyclops’ team find themselves in more than one set of crosshairs dealing with a mutant crisis in Alaska, a new group of enemies make themselves known: They are the X-Men, who are sponsored by 3K in their bid for possession of the future of mutantkind!
New ā€œX-Menā€ debuting. Maybe they show up in cameo at the end of #15, but not a lot of hype so going to run with this as the pick of the week.

Parting Thoughts

I got nothing this week. Just have a great week!

I read a preview for Lost Fantasy, it was a good read and I’m curious where they are going with it.
