Guy puts an offer on five books I am selling. Since he is buying multiples I am willing to cut him a deal and accept the offers.

Everyone of them failed.

In 20 years of selling on eBay have never had this problem. Suddenly this is happening all the time. wtf?

On a whim, I checked the attempted buyers store.

He had put in offers on five invincible books

All he sells is graded invincible books….

Wondering if he was just trying to get my books cheap and grade or take my copies off the market.

This guy has bought invincible books from me on a few different occasions. Always buys more than one and never had an issue.

I guess for them it’s all Invincible all day every day

His funding stream is no longer….invincible…?

Interesting one here. Ebay buyer requested a return saying the book was damaged in shipment.

“the side of the bag split open and the book was damaged .”

Now I tape (painters tape) a comic board to the front of the bagged and boarded comic on 4 sides, I then tape the sandwiched comic down to the gemini mailer. How does this happen? What else could I have done? First time I’ve had a damage issue shipping this way.

That looks like they probably lightly dropped it when unpacking… but did they show pics of the package and bag as well? I’d always ask for pics of the package, usually you can tell from the package if any damage was done to the comcs cause the damage on the box/package lines up where the damage shows on the comics.

The other thought is what types of bags do you use? I find Mylar splits waaaaaaay too easily. All it takes is a little crack along the flap and it can split down the edge with little force…

Whoa. I literally just had someone return a book about two weeks ago because they said the same thing, “bag split on the side and comic damaged”. I shipped it in a Gemini Mailer with painter’s tape keeping the comic bag and board taped to the mailer. First time I ever had that claim. Hmmm…

Compare notes!

I block everyone returning a damaged book due to this reason, just not worth the hassle. Usually I find they scam me for a better copy, as the amount of damage doesn’t make sense the way I package. Only happened maybe 5 times in the last 5 years…and no protection from eBay.

So I had a buyer message me with pictures of the Gemini mailer and comic he bought from me, both crunched. Not a big sale but nice margin (bought for .35 and sold for $13). Refunded the guy and didn’t bother with a return. decided to submit the pics to usps for an insurance claim. Submitted that last week and lo and behold, today in the mail, a check from usps. Always use ground advantage folks. It comes in handy for those occasional usps drivers that don’t give a crap.

It was a comics proline bag, which are kinda like a thinner mylar. The guy appeared on the level but you never know. I don’t want to drop his full name but he had “addict” in his Ebay name.

I checked. My buyer was different. I used a regular self sealing comic bag. Nothing out of the ordinary. :man_shrugging:

It’s probably legit, Comic Proline bags are the absolute worst. They are so thin and they easily rip on the sides.

I have also heard of people getting their comics damaged even though they sent it in a Gemini mailer. I have sent a comic in a Gemini and the buyer contacted me with pictures of the mailer bent in half. Also had the same with boxes.

My hypothesis is that the courier treats a Gemini mailer like a parcel because they’re kinda thick so they toss it around into their truck and sorting facility. The comic gets moved around and sometimes have heavy boxes thrown on top of them.

This is how I ship my comics now.

I bag and board my comic and tape it to 2 pieces of cardboard and slip it into a rigid mailer. It is rock solid and the comic can’t move around. It’s very possible that the courier treats these envelopes differently when they’re sorting and delivering it. They might not get tossed around like parcels do and may be carried in bags.

I’ve never had a problem ever since switching to packing it this way.
