Thanks for this post. While the dilemma is unfortunate, you did a good deed for the day. I didn’t realize that book finally caught some price love. I have an extra I need to sell and will get it listed.
Not sure eBay will let you “combine” orders internationally, as they charge the buyer based on what’s input. So combining messes that up.
What I did when I encountered this is that I made sure the “extra” comics fit in the same box and didn’t exceed the max weight I entered. Then added the tracking number to the “extra” comics and marked as shipped.
Hopefully it goes well…I haven’t checked the status…
I picked one up today for $3 at Half Price Books. It is in great condition, time to list! God bless HPB and how the pricing makes no sense with some pricey stuff cheap and dollar books marked for twenty smackers.
I have sold a bunch on Mercari as of late.
Yesterday someone made an offer on three books I had up. Not expensive in any way. And just stuff I didn’t mind letting go cheap.
Anyway, someone made an offer of $20 on three books. They were listed for $35 total. because of the way Mercari does shipping it was charging them $15 shipping for 3 lbs. their offer essentially was $35 shipped.
I sent a message to the buyer saying if you would go $25 I would do a separate bundle just for them with 1 lb shipping making the total $31 saving them money and making me more.
They didn’t respond
So I waited almost the 24 hours and didn’t hear anything back
I shot them a counter offer of $25 plus the 3 lb shipping. Hoping to get their attention.
Well, the fools accepted the offer. Ended up paying more.
I just don’t understand people b
Math is hard.
I do that all the time on Mercari when ai get bundle offers. Tell them I’ll create a separate listing for cheaper do them, more for me. Typically they go for it.
What I shipped.
Pictures of the damaged book.
First return requested in I don’t know how many years…and And this is what I get.
Odds that the person just tries to force this through, and so have to waste my time arguing with eBay to not take my money….?
Argue it. Call eBay. He is not even showing the right book. He is claiming damage on a book from someone else I bet.
Been revolved. ![]()

What happened?
He admitted his mistake and cancelled the request.
I actually had to request a return yesterday. Book was advertised as NM…opened it up and staples were rusted.
I find this with early issues of TMNTs for some reason…books look great on eBay…practically flawless…only to get it and see rust stains on the interior.
I have my first shipping damage issue with USPS. Do I file the claim as a seller? Or does the buyer have to do that?
For lost packages, sellers need to do it. For damages caused by USPS I have the buyers do it. Whoever holds the package and can take photos should do it.
According to USPS, they recommend the seller file the claim. The person who bought the shipping label. That doesn’t seem required though.
If there’s a dispute they ask to see the evidence…for the one submitting the claim to provide photos and bring it in….my experience has been this.
Good luck getting the buyer to help once you’ve refunded them. The seller is SOL if they are submitting the claim and USPS asked for more than what is provided online.
I don’t trust USPS to protect what they handle to begin with…i certainly question their recommendations how WE should hold THEM accountable…
The one time I had to do this last year, I filed the claim online and received a message to bring in the package and its contents. It was a fiasco. It is tough as the seller because the buyer is the one holding the damaged item and package.
That is my issue. eBay sided with me on the lost package claim. They side with me on a damage claim. The buyer in the lost package claim filed the missing mail report which he should have contacted me to do. Since he did it I can’t get info and he could have selected to have the mail returned to him. On the damage claim they sided with me that since the package is insured and it was damaged in transit. He needed to file the claim.
I’ve issued a refund on the damaged book, and filed the claim. Hopefully I get that returned soon, in case they want more evidence of damage. The good thing is the buyer is being very cool about the whole thing.
If usps honors a claim they also will want the damaged item. Unless they’ve changed their policies and procedures.
