with game released they only really need to focus on new characters and skins, so obviously they wont keep everyone in initial design

Probably down to skeleton crew or existing crew that can handle after the initial code design and such…

Well, obviously. I’m surprised they hired the initial design team instead of just contracting them, at least from the sounds of it. Laid off tells me they were salaried employees, when you contract the positions out, you just tell them thank you, we no longer need your services. That’s the smart way of doing it when you know you won’t need them long term. This is pretty normal in the software business… Come build us this as contractor and when you’re work is done, our in house developers will maintain it afterwards.
