Buy low, sell high but buy mine for the high price please! Makes perfect sense…

agentpoyo says, buy low, sell high and if you missed out, skip/wait for the next hot book you can obtain to flip obtaining at a low price.

Are some areas not receiving Eight Billion Genies #3 or something? Damages?

I’m seeing pretty high sold prices/listed prices on these and it really doesn’t make sense based on what I’ve seen.
They are plentiful on the racks in my area. Even #2 is still on racks.

It depends on which area you’re from. I was able to grab all the Eight Billion Genies I wanted last week as no one was buying it. This week I saw droves of people coming in only looking for it and nothing else. I was able to grab a copy of each cover for #3 from my usual shop. They ordered a bunch.

Today was NCBD so I decided to go hunting at a few stores to see what was up. Went to a few stores at open and none had any copies on the shelf. They weren’t even put out.

My area is well known for a bunch of real skeezy speculators who are a disgrace to humanity. They will come in and scoop up all copies of every hot book even if the store only have a 1 copy per person on NCBD. There was one speculator who got banned at one of the shops I went to because he grabbed all the copies of this hot book that was out that week. The shop owner told him he hasn’t sorted them out yet as he has to put them in his subscribers box first, the comics were not for sale yet. The speculator told the shop “What? you don’t like money?” in a very condescending tone. He got immediately banned.

These speculators would call up every shop and in the city to have only the hot books on hold on that day or after they’ve become hot. Our shop owners are increasingly losing patience with these guys because they see them as pariahs to the industry.

Retailers should realize the only reason they can jack up their prices is because of speculators. Also, even if they aren’t jacking up the price, speculators are buying their product. They would lose a lot of money without speculators. I think it’s funny when stores try to speculate and fall flat on their face simply because of greed.

Not all speculators are the same. If you’re respectful to others and not a dick and follow the rules then there’s no problem with it. I’ve told the story before of how there was a literal fist fight at one of my shops the week that Punchline 1:25 design variant was the hot book that week. I don’t blame the shop owners for how they treat some of these guys from what I’ve seen.

I completely understand why they would treat idiots like that poorly

There is a difference between a speculator a flipper and a third class I call shelf clearers. Speculators are long term holders. Flippers are day traders. Shelf clearers only care that they get copies. I myself am a speculator and a flipper. But not a shelf clearer.

If you aren’t willing to hold, one may have a tough time doing what we do. Wednesday warriors are mostly extinct because there’s too much retailer awareness and exclusives that ruin the incentives.

Scalpers. They’re scalpers and they’re the lowest of the low.

Any idea as to why this is going for so much? Just the cover? 🤷

It only goes for that much until you try to sell it. I’ve never got more than $22 for a gi joe 1:10 with a great cover and first appearance.
