Modern Comics Heating Up (Those With Potential Too) (Part 1)

The way Tosin went, Spider-boy could also go that way…

to a dead end.

Over-hyped garbage spec

If a dead end is $50 in sale value, I’ll take it every time. You’re just saying this because you skipped Tosin

If you think it’s over hyped garbage why did you pre-ordered 30 copies?
Aren’t you admitting that you fell victim to all this “fake hype”. Why pre order so many copies if you didn’t believe in the spec yourself when you were placing your order last month? Makes no sense.

Why you have to be a curmudgeon on everything?

I didnt skip BP3. Do you really think I miss books ?

The discussion about spec can be about the good and the bad.

I can talk crap all day about the books I buy. It’s being honest. I dont need to pump up anything.

Why must we talk only positive about the books we buy…? Can’t we look at both sides of the coin…?

Spider Boy is the Next Tosin…Tosin is the next miles.

30 copies? I only ordered 16 and could have ordered a lot more a couple days before NCBD. I would have done it if I believed this character had a future.

Buying multiple copies does not mean I believe in the hype. Looking at the past modern hot books from the last 2-3 years, I’m not sure anyone will care in 3-6 months or even sooner- only time will tell. The popular reference is always Tosin but even that book has fallen from its heights. Unless he is used in potentially more marvel stories and makes more appearances or even appears in a movie or tv show, interest will slowly diminish. With the excellent knowledge shared here and on various comic sites and YouTube videos, I see no reason not to buy a book that has the potential to heat up and flip it for a profit. Myself, if the prices hold till when my shipment arrives, I plan on dumping the majority of my copies at these prices, hold a couple back in case of a secondary upswing and use the funds to buy a nice bronze, copper or silver key. With some of these modern books, if the momentum holds long term, there will always be plenty of opportunity if need be to buy in during the lull or dips.

My thoughts on Tosin and SpiderBoy:

If I remember correctly BP3 never heated up until Bleedingstool wrote a sensational click baity article on their website saying he’s the next Miles. This was a couple days before the issue was about to hit the market. Nobody hyped this or pumped it pre FOC. Everyone crapped on it here and everywhere else I’ve seen before the issue came out on Wednesday. I was at my shop during that week a few days before it came out and could’ve told my shop to hold as many copies of BP3 for me as I wanted as no one was hounding my shop at the time. I just took 1 copy because I thought the article was garbage.

Spiderboy was pumped on twitter by the creator and although some/many people pre-ordered copies, most didn’t go all in on the spec largely because the cover wasn’t revealed pre FOC. I mean, Slott could’ve been pumping the next Goblin Queen for all we knew.
It didn’t heat up until the cover was revealed and people liked the character and cover and not many stores ordered a blank spoiler cover.

So to me, the Spiderboy heat is much more organic than Tosin. Time will tell but I think the 2 are different enough.

We’re all going to start competing with each other in a few days when online orders arrive…because we were all in on this…(except @monopolyjackson who will not sell any of his copies for years ).

The other thing is a lot of these books are heading to CGC, so there will be a few weeks to a month lag before graded copies start flooding the market too.

Depending upon on if I get all my copies ordered and what condition they’re on…I might send my best two in myself, along with a Tosin or two.

I don’t buy much NCBD stuff these days. For me it takes more to pull the trigger. When BP3 started heating up, I tracked new listings and sales early in the day and based on what I was seeing, I pulled the trigger on 7 or 8 copies off eBay at around $15ish and a 1:25 for $80ish. I’m still holding onto all of those because I like the character longer term. I can sell now for a nice profit.

I’m seeing lots of similarities with the Ramos Spider-Man 7. Luckily I pre-ordered so I don’t have to pay secondary market prices but if I had to, I would gladly pay these prices instead of predicting a price crash like so many who didn’t get copies are. I’ll never understand the negativity in the spec community from people who don’t have copies of a book. It won’t hurt anyone who didn’t get copies if others are successfully flipping.

That said, if you do have copies and are selling for a profit now, hell yeah. And if you’re holding copies hoping for a bigger profit later, I’m with you. And if you hold too long and it becomes garbage, it happens. But if you’re without copies and praying for a crash to feel better about missing out on copies, especially when on a forum where it was advertised pre-FOC, please go away.

I remember someone saying it’s a stupid business model to sell them this early

There is not anything “organic” about this spiderboy. The only issue he is in came out literally yesterday, where issues were selling for $10+ for the last few days before it came out.

Kids were not reading this issue and running to eBay to buy as many as they can get. This is literally the exact opposite of ‘organic growth’.

Also kids, or anyone, were not reading this issue yesterday since speculators bought out every issue at every lcs.

The only people buying this book are speculators. The only reason the price is going up is because all of you have caught FOMO & need to be inoculated. The more you talk about it the more people are going to to be inoculated. Make money while you can.

Most spec anymore is inorganic. What was the last reader spec, immortal hulk or siktc?

I was organizing comics the other day and came up to my immortal hulk run…and thought “that is a classic run for the ages…people will likely be talking about this run for many years to come.”
