Great question! I was able to get one at cover but I have zero idea why this is doing well.

@monopolyjackson I think it was just one of those books that caught folks by surprise. The hype over SA has died down a bit, and it was “just another” Adams variant of a character when it came to ordering. As someone mentioned though, Magik and “boobs” are a “magical combination” when it comes to some of this craziness.
With it having 3 open order covers and no ratio (please correct me if I’m wrong on that) I just don’t think there were tons of them out there.
Can only speak for my area…one shop ordered zero (they only bought the A cover) and the other two shops had maybe 3-5 on the racks and just said they didn’t see any reason to order it to begin with.
The funny thing is, it is the first appearance of a cool looking/designed character (Gaslamp) but I’ve seen no talk about that fact…just magik and her assets.
I’ve seen less hype, talk, or posts about it than many other books as well??? I don’t know that I ever saw it highlighted much other than on these forums.
Gaslamp reminds me of the “Walking Man” from the Conjuring Part Two movie.
All I got, someone else chime in if there is some other aspect we are missing. Pretty crazy prices for it thus far.

Power of KCC and the herd mentality. They had it featured in a Magik section during the week and after that all of a sudden people wanted it.
It’s a cool cover and I collect Magik covers so I managed to order it a while back but Artgerm has a similar cover on New Mutants #1 similar style and pose which I think is the better of the 2 yet no one cares about that because its not on KCC

Agreed,but any of the comments/hype and talk was all well after the typical window, easy opportunities to order it ahead of time had passed.
Even the addition by KCC was very late to the game on it and again, too late for folks to take advantage of if it if that is their thing (relying on the app for their weekly spec purchases). I believe it wasn’t added to the KCC “keys of the week” list till later on Tuesday and even then he had the regular copy/not this variant featured.
I don’t get into that cameo vs full argument stuff. It’s Gaslamp, he’s in two panels, and we know who he is as they have highlighted and solicited him already.
I’ve seen that some stores have their “exclusives” upcoming that they want to sell as First Gaslamp, First Gaslamp cover, etc, etc…they are definitely all aboard the cameo argument as they want to advertise their product and get folks to buy in on the “1st appearance” train (and I get it, I just don’t personally agree with it is all). To each their own.

I was able to order 3 SA#13 Adams covers off of eBay for around $18 with the shipping and then found 2 copies at my LCS yesterday when I went to pick up my subscriptions. I listed 3 for now and will wait to see if I should hold the other 2 for now.

When I said Man Ape could be the next black panther over a year ago I was laughed at and not a single copy moved.

Yeah, I catch nearly every relevant FOC and NCBD youtube video and this Adams SA variant was barely mentioned. This has nothing to to with FOMO or KCC, it’s just natural. This cover is really similar to all of these that go for dollars and it was clear that it wasn’t ordered heavily at all and people paid to get it into their collection. There may have been some FOMO at the end with the KCC zombies, but that’s not why this one popped, IMO.

I was just going to say the same thing lol @SpideyHunter516 . Cover art reveal was after FOC and I know me being one passed on it when it was on FOC.
I’ve been buying all of the Adams Strange Academy covers and we haven’t seen anything pop since issue #2. I guess it’s Magik…but like you said, those other books have quite a bit in common with the ladies’ features on the cover.

This is one of my favorite books…I bought a few with the trade dress, and I have a 9.8 virgin I stashed away. She is so hot on this cover!
