I think a lot of people who aren’t even interested take a lot of the slots for things. On a side note I am still waiting on my tickets which is ridiculous, I ordered them back in June and still nothing.
My badge arrived today. So that’s something.
Not really impressed by the exclusives this year.
So far here are a few highlights. The Pop Kill may be the best of the bunch.
I’m not sure how I feel about these Fame/Tribute comics…but some of the covers are the best. Have any retained value?
Also, it seems like just about all exclusives are very limited this year. Very few have more than 800. Past years 1500-3000 was pretty standard. Guess shops got tired of lugging all the extra copies back and forth…
There had to be something Labubu. But is it too late to cash in? People may not realize there’s a matching set.
Empire State Building and Chrysler Building are nice touches, along with the NYCC banner.
What may help this cover is its limit of 200.
Those bastards may get me again…
I do like my Beastie Boys. I may “check it.”
My favorite may be this Simpsons homage. I’ve talked to him, but never bought from Very Gary.
That Frison is nice but at $80 for Trade and Virgin priced me out.
I spoke with a few vendors last year. I didn’t know it, but Javits Center weighs all the sales stock when it’s brought in and when it leaves and they get charged for the weight difference as a tax/fee or something like that
I’ll be at NYCC this year too. We should have a CHU meetup for beers or something
I have my pass, but am kind of on the fence about if I will be there or not this year. Depends on how my wife is doing. She had her second surgery last week and is scheduled to start radiation around that time. I would love a meet up though, we did one in years past.
Publisher Exclusives, for years & years, were my “Go To”. (Not so much the Store Convention Exclusives)
One could go to each and every booth (IDW, Boom, Dark Horse, Image, Skybound) quickly for $10 - $15 and Marvel would generally be the major challenge (Image Spawns were also later on).
In the last few years though? - good luck at the publisher booths. One is lucky to stand on one line for an hour to get one. Everyone caught on they could profit unbelievably well and now it’s nothing but lines. Combine that fact with the buy-in prices being ridiculous now (rememeber, everyone needs their cut) and I’ve been mostly out.
I still go to the Marvel Panels as those are free giveaways at the panel that do well on secondary market
Store Convention Exclusives are just regular store variants, still dont knw why people fall for that gimmick
Yeah, that was fun. Maybe if you can’t make it, then @D-Rog is on the hook to organize it and buy a round of drinks for CHU members…
Come to think of it, I came across some buttons and stickers, maybe I should send to D-Rog to hand out while he’s there (I’m pretty certain he’s going).
The only “true” exclusives seem to be those given away at panels.
But technically if it says NYCC 2025 and it only sold at the booth, and sold out…it’s still meets “exclusive” I think…by default.
Feel free to send them to me. Should I just wear them all and hand them out to whomever pulls me aside? Need a CHU hat or Tee. That’d be fun to wear. I need a neck camera so I can record video to record the experience. Does CHU expense for that?
I’m going Fri/Sat and going panel heavy. I have a 3.5 hrs commute each morning and night. It makes for a very long day…although I run 5 miles every other day, my knees are shot to the point I’m hobbling onto metro north on my way out. I am on the move 100% of my time there.
I’ve considered staying over, but it’s never really made much sense. I’m only saving $40 in round trip train fair. And I’m just relaxing on the train for 2 hours….maybe getting a little CHU work in. I get stuff done in that total 4 hrs. I grab a nice tall 20oz can of beer for the ride back too.
I’m only in the road maybe 45 min, and walking/waiting the other 45. I’ve got it down to a science!
- Also available at the booth will be an IDW DARK exclusive flipbook, featuring the first look at upcoming comics from the worlds of SMILE and A QUIET PLACE. Free while supplies last!
This looks the most interesting. Too bad IDW lost SWs.
Starship Godzilla is…different. That could be a big hit…or big flop.
Too bad I’m not there Sunday. Would like to have sat on Takei’s panel…just to be in the room with an original series actor.
Yes, 0% covered is the policy… so maybe write off for taxes?
I take a break while on vacations with tons of walking and such myself. The last NYCC I think I went to in 2019, I think I averaged between 20-30k steps a day and I’d usually go from Wednesday and leave Sunday… Most Sunday’s @Anthony would give me a lift to the airport on his way out of town and I’d usually hang out at the airport and working CHU articles for the Con coverage and such…
Since you buy and sell comics and report the income on your taxes, there are certain purchases that are business expenses that you may have not otherwise considered.
Some of them are so in the minutiae it’s not worth getting flagged.
I’ve heard claiming a room as an office and then expensing utilities and mortgage presents a higher risk for an audit.
Yes… it does raise the possibility of getting audited. One year I added part of my home space to claim tax deductions for doing comic book stuff (when I was doing way more selling) and it didn’t change squat on my tax bill so I just abandoned it due to that risk.
I have heard “home office” is the #1 red flag. I will say even though half a floor in our house is where I work from I claim no home office.
