Nycc 2025

I probably spent about 2 hrs total each day walking through the comic back issue vendors, and rarely looked at thier slabs. I was looking mainly for flips, and a few inexpensive pc books.

But I don’t recall seeing a single PSA slab.

PSA booth had customers, but not really a wait.

I think the CGC booth set up in Artist Alley was busy…the one up on the main floor not so much.

Right now I think most submitting to PSA are not sending in “wall books” but modern stuff. Stuff that’s typically isn’t on the wall to begin with. And anything on short boxes are
Likely discounted overstock… not new books. So I’m not surprised, nor do I think it really means much at this point.

What I will say is the amount of vendors selling back issues feels less than last year…and last year felt less than the year before. ZZAP Comics was there. Victory Comics was there. There’s one more I typically buy from I can’t remember….

Ultimate Spider-Man is a good read, needs a bit more action though.

Didnt you know…

Its called NYEVCC - New York Exclusive Variant Comic Con

Thats all these big cons are now, vendors selling their own “exclusive variant” comic…

I probably should have counted the number of vendors selling only their exclusives. It likely outnumbered vendors selling back issues. Not by a lot though, at least at that end of the floor.

If you include artists who have their own exclusives in other area like Artist Alley, EBay Live, WhatNot, Marvel, Walmart, etc….it could be more like 4-1.

But that said, I would contend the vast majority of the event is not about comics anyway. NYPCC (NY Pop Culture Con) may be even more accurate than that.

NYCC 2025 Bells of the Ball - Comic Books

NYCC still has one day left, but here are some of the early winners from the weekend for Comic Books.

The Pop Kill #1 Frisson variant (limited to 200 Virgin and 200 trade dress), offered by NoMass Comics and Captured Collectibles. The set was $80, but was sold out before the doors opened to the general public (likely dealers all grabbed these up, or certain VIP early entries). So a disappointing for any regular fans looking to score a copy.

This could also double as the most controversial comic, similar to the Momoko Spawn comic of 2024, and the Momoko signing of 2022.

Amazing Spider-Man #13 Marvel Fanfare Panel Exclusive.

Of all the panel giveaways, this one may be the best. Once it was announced the comic would be a cover by JSC it became the #1 panel to be attended for me…everything JSC draws is hot, and you knew this would be hard to beat amongst all completion this convention.

The Spawn #1 Spawn 77 Walmart Toy Variant was probably the surprise of the convention. You received free if you bought one of three Spawn deluxe action figures.

Copies of this book alone rival most all exclusives, but if you were fortunate enough to be in the line Friday when Todd McFarlane showed up to do a live stream with Walmart (1pm-2pm), or caught word he was signing (it was posted as early as Thursday outside of the Walmart booth) you got a signed copy from the Toddfather himself. No purchase necessary.

From what I can tell, this comic is the biggest win, At least short term. There may be a few other rare limited exclusives that may go for more, but I believe you had to be extremely lucky pulling them out of a blind pack. The above just required to plan ahead and be there at the time they became available (albeit that may have been before 10am for the Frisson book…).

So this is just from my observations. There are certain many more exclusives which are going for more than what was paid for, and giveaways going for more than $20. Feel free to share what you know.

Beneath the Trees, bear crossing over to DC/KO

Was also a Metal version for that Jenny Frison Pop Kill. I think asking prices for that were about $200.

I forgot to mention that…they are currently only getting
About $300 for the set…which is not as good as a return on investment. Copies are currently sitting on eBay at $350 OBO from what I can tell. The above looks like someone split up the set and got $360.

So despite Half the copies, available it’s a lower ROI.

There are plenty of limited books that sold for $20-$30 getting double. For example, the Crow blind bags sell for $60+ and there were still bags left at $25. So could have gotten 8 for the same price…and easily sold them for $340 or higher.

How does that work…?

I was on the show floor within minutes of opening on Thursday and Pop Kill was sold out before the show even opened up. Do you know if the Walmart booth eventually sold out of the Spawn book? It did not seem like a lot of people were buying it on Thursday/

There were also Exquisite Corpses Blind Bags as well which looked cool.

I could do a whole segment on NYCac 2025 blind bags. Virgin vs Trade Dress vs Foil vs Alternate Art still dominates, but now instead of selling these in sets they are packaging them into blind bags.

Of course 2024 Year in Marvel last year planted the seed. But the Marvel titles of 2025 are not close in significance at this point as the titles were last year. It still seems they are doing well. The buy-in was $60 at the whatnot booth, and the sealed packs seem to be consistently selling for double
On eBay. What was not as good was the lines at the booth were pretty long, I would estimate 90 min to 2 hours. I avoided it as there was nothing I really wanted. Maybe Thursday wasn’t as bad…?

The lowest sales for the books inside is $30…so at worst after fees you’d probably make $10-$20. Keep in mind these were selling for up to $300 a week ago.

Someone here mentioned the Crow blind bag. These had one comic, and were $25. They were selling up to $75 on eBay…starting to settle to maybe $60(?). I can’t seem to gage how the more common are doing, but some of the more uncommon seem to be doing very well.

But as far as how the Exquisite Corpses blind bags were doing, I don’t know. At the Tiny Onion booth I actually gravitated toward the “Bootleg” DoT #15. It was limited to 1 per day at $15…and were still available Saturday afternoon. There have been a few sales at $60, and that currently is the low BIN price. I only see 5 on eBay. So hard to gage where this one goes.

Do people ever not open the bags? I saw talk on the internet of people planning to stockpile Mark Spears blind bags like an investment to hold for some years?

One more quick honorable mention before I have to wrap up my FOC write-up.

The Legend Has It #1 book has had strong after sales so far. It’s very uncommon to a NYCC exclusives with 3000 print run sell on the aftermarket for more than cost. This book has a 10k print run and convention price of $30…yet numerous sales at $100…lately it’s dropped down to $70,
but that’s still double.

And I believe it’s offered through whatnot for $30, but I haven’t verified that.

So worth keeping and eye on…the panel was well attended and energetic. We’ve seen hip-hop variants and exclusives do well in recent years…if the line wasn’t insanely long I would have grabbed a few copies for spec. Just a hunch demand may actually exceed supply as word spreads…

i posted link above, its for sale online.

Did you submit the peach comic for grading? Maybe that what got you the card. Not sure…didn’t ask.

I think I lost one of my pins, as I thought they gave me 2.
