Odds and Ends

I sold a set of the Zealot mini series from the 90s to a buyer named Terry Shoemaker who was the artist of the book, not sure if it was a coincidence or not but can’t imagine that name is common haha

" Befitting the line’s ominous tone, the main covers of the MIDNIGHT titles will be presented in Cloaked Cover trade dress that conceals the full artwork until readers open the issue. With the exception of the debut issues, the full artwork will remain shrouded in shadow, only revealing themselves to those who pick them up on stands."

I can see people tearing the cover off to have virgin covers…

I like the ‘cloaked cover’ style and I was a little sad making pre-orders to find out that the first issue won’t be ‘cloaked.’ I was even hoping a little bit that they might go back to the acetate covers used on Marvels to put the black bars in and then you open to the full artwork. I guess doing the same with regular paper is cheaper.

On a related note, a friend pointed out that the art for the first issue with the bug on his chest is very similar to Deadly Neighborhood Spider-Man:

I wonder if it’s relevant at all, a nod/callback, or just some form of convergent design.
