Well, Mr. Poyo … it’s been a rollercoaster ride for sure … “Hope for the best, plan for the worst” … I have now added the Covid two month shut down to my list of “Can I get through this one … ??” … the answer was yes …
No secret to it … treat your customers right, go the extra mile when needed, buy books to sell out, don’t chase what you think might be hot, and, for God’s sake, don’t mark books up straight out of the box (unless it’s a limited buy 50 to get this variant, and then, be fair …)
Me personally I’m tired of setting my alarm for incentive variants from big retailers just to see them at double and triple ratio. Get them cheaper on eBay a week in advance.
It was a comic tom video from about 2 years ago where Nick is a guest and the creators of 'Rags, were also guests. It’s about 50 minutes into the video, if memory serves me correct. I’ll see if I can find it. It was also documented on CHU, at the time.
So the way incentive variants are at least the ones that are hot on the day of release being hocked at 3x ratio is pretty much a store variant inflated price a bunch of reg covers no one wants like trade dress covers.
This guy name Justin has been trying to sue Frankies over some Peach book even filed a formal complaint on the BBB. You don’t have to be a female to be a Karen.
I love when people threaten to report a company to the BBB, like that’s even a thing anymore. It’s like saying “I’m going to write a bad Yelp review, but at a place only really old people care about!”
Well, I think if they overproduce more store variants than what they claim that is definitely fraudulant, and I would definitely like to know if they practice this as it will affect my choice to purchase any future store variants.
I don’t think it is a common practice, but, some stores have been so shady in the past regarding print runs et al, that it has led to all store books losing credibility among whole sects of the comic community.
Having a retailer, especially one who dabbles in the secondary market, controlling resale and print runs on certain books is akin to the fox’s running the henhouse.
If you do find this please be sure to post it in the thread as well. If it’s true, then the message needs to be spread and we won’t have to talk about KCC because no one will want to use their service if all it takes is some cash and an alert gets sent out.
Edit. Didn’t realize this was such an old topic. But I’d love to see that video.
