The Adam Hughes Thread

Also, do not be cheap and lazy and opt for the “Poop in a box mail away option”…One of the main reasons to have a colonoscopy is for the doctor to have the ability to remove and test any polyps discovered. Most colon polyps are benign, but some can develop into colorectal cancer over time.

Yeah, I would say only do the Box method if you have zero history and perhaps do earlier before you go get a real one. I’m happy to say I had mine in February and they found nothing, not even a single polyp, I got cleared for not getting checked again until 10 years later instead of 5 or whatever…

According to my doctor the poop and mail test is preferred because of its ease and accuracy. I asked him if it would be proactive to take the test the old fashioned way and he basically said the results would be the same. So, either my doctor doesn’t want to get down and dirty or the poop test has gotten better with detection.

I’ve heard the at home tests are getting better but like Snizzlepop stated, during a normal one they at least remove what is or looks like polyps to get further tested, etc.

I just switched insurance plans so I will be getting a new primary care doctor. that’s one of the first things I am going to ask about. Will be curious to see if the philosophy on testing is the same.

Yeah, one issue or well, observation I find among doctors, some let big pharma dictate what they do instead of just doing what actually should be done through years of experience, education, common sense, etc. It’s pretty sad I can get better responses from AI now based on symptoms than actual doctors.

I have had zero issues and no family history. My doctor recommended the poop in the box method. I was fine doing it.

What do you do for a living?
I’m in the receiving department for Cologuard.
Poor soul!! :sob:

There is also an even more complex procedure called an UES (Endoscopic Ultrasound) in times where even better analysis is needed of the colon. Essentially the gold star test.
Pretty advanced procedure though and not all hospitals have them
I personally needed to travel a distance for one.

Praying for Mr. Hughes. It is indeed, a tough road. I know from personal experience. Unfortunately the cure can be a rough as the disease.

Yeah, the post says he was at stage 3c, which puts him at around the 53% 5 year survival rate statistic… so it’s gonna be a tough tough road for Mr. Hughes. Hope he’s strong and can pull out of this into remission!
