ASSORTED CRISIS EVENTS #8 3RD PRINT

How about they come out with issue 9 before 8 hits a 3rd…?

They kill the momentum with series like that man. Same with rook

Remember the days Marvel would have original “first cover” art for reprints of hot books…apparently they’ve decided to just go the cheap route and just change a few colors.

DC has been doing that for a while too…and recent books I’m not even sure they change the trade dress color…much less anything else….just microscopic “second printing” in the UPC.

1st print will still be king for Bernthal sigs as long as he’s relevant. A nice red paint pen signature on the first print would be epic…I think the red trade dress, although cool, would distract from a signature.

One big downside of creator owned books: They come out whenever the hell they want to. Hyde Street, Rook, Assorted Crisis. All three were hot, and they are just killing any momentum they had with sales. So absurd. Why put your heart and soul into a project just to abandon it once it is successful?!

That’s what I was saying. Shrugs. I don’t get it. I assume I’m missing something.

It’s not that they abandon it. It’s typically:

  • They have other projects that have actual deadlines so their project without deadlines gets pushed
  • They are ridiculously slow with the art (e.g. Fabok with Rook)
  • Sales don’t justify further investment of time and opportunity cost in their own project

Reminds me of the early Image days. Once you’re not trying to stay in the good graces of an editor…

I would also add to this:

  • Unexpected popularity on idea that wasn’t fully thought out. Sometimes stories are unfinished ideas so the creators are back into creative mode because they didn’t have the full story pen’d out, etc.

So often books are canceled due to poor sales and non interest so a lot of creators get the first parts created but when they take off, didn’t plan the rest.
