Jesse James did state he was dropping Bad Idea after Eniac #1…before the ban.

Got my copy this morning from Midtown. It’s the quickest turnaround on a Midtown order in awhile. In great shape too! I read it already. It was a good read. Excited for issue 2.
After such a hype machine and Dinesh saying ‘they only care about the comics’, it took three days before I found someone actually talking about the story and indicating if it was any good or not. All of the other talk has centered around Bad Idea’s (lack of) a distribution method that works and how pissed off collectors are because they can’t find the book at cover price on day of release. For a company that touts that they are all about the content, their system of operations is turning people off before they even have a chance to read the comics. I just don’t get it.
I originally pre-ordered this book myself because Matt Kindt’s name is on it. So yeah, I agree to an extent. For a publisher to claim they want to create great content, writing and artwork, they sure are making a splash on the market by their OCD controlling of their product rather than what it truly should be about, the story and art itself.
It uses history and real events as a basis for the story. It’s a reason I am really liking Department if Truth. SLIGHT SPOILER—— The first issue has The ENiAC- 1st computer built in WWII- somehow shaping world events that have occurred since being created.—— It seems like it’s going to be a good read based on issue 1.
If they were all about content, they’d release it digitally. I.e. distribute the content in a more accessible medium. By prioritizing the form of the product (paper serial comics) over the substance regardless of form (same content via digital) they undercut their own argument that they’re all about content.
They can do what they want of course, but it doesn’t make sense.
It does seem a bit americo-centric, though. Was Nixon resigning really a world event? I can tell you that my family in England didn’t really care or even pay attention to that at the time. That was internal U.S. politics, not a world event. I enjoyed the read, it just kind of stood out to me that Kindt is limited by his own upbringing and perspective. Japan’s only included because America dropped the bombs. Just saying.
We were discussing the contents of the book, in this very thread, 2 days ago.
I just read through this Bad Idea discussion for the first time today. Thursday I went to my LCS to pick up my comics from my pull list and check out what was released that week. I had Eniac book pre-ordered a long time ago and have not given it much thought since then. I got the book. I was more excited because they had refilled the dollar book section in the store, lol.
Exactly. Didn’t they also claim no trades as well? It’s going to be nothing but floppies with one as “first print” and then unlimited printings there after as “not first printing”…
Honestly though, I think they’re doing and getting exactly what they wanted from their silly rules and their illogical policies. Bad publicity is still publicity. Here we all are, talking about them. They’re winning from what I can tell…
