So over the past few years, been really getting into board games, along with that, also card games (deck builders, etc). But over this past weekend, I volunteered for Chupacabracon XII along with running a few tables myself as Game Master. Had a blast, it was pretty much non stop board games for me from 9am to midnight each day, even staying up a bit later after getting home playing more board games.
But anyways, wanted to start a topic here to chat about board games, card games, RPG, etc… All the analog gaming fun and not the digital games.
But did want to start off by sharing a new deck builder game that was at the convention where the creators attended and had their own booth, which is https://www.luminouscardgame.com/ and their new The Wanderers card game. I haven’t gotten a chance to play it but after talking to them and watching their video how to play, totally went and bought a set, got a prototype card I got them to sign which was very cool. Some of the game play reminded me of Star Realms which I play all the time (there’s a digital mobile app of it so a great time waster when having to sit around waiting for whatever)… They do meetups around Austin as well, so hoping to catch one of those to learn in person and make some game connections.
This is the game the family and I have been playing. Basic and very fun. We got it last year at the SDCC and we’ve been playing it on the weekends to pass the time. They just need to add more cards.
The girlfriend and I have several games that are super mobile we always try to have on hand when we’re at restraraunts or even waiting for our table.
First one is called Qwixx, which all you need is your smart phone as there’s apps to download to keep score and 6 dice (we keep a set in our cars or bags), 1 blue, 1 green, 1 red and 1 yellow then two white or neutral colored dice that aren’t the other 4.
The newest one we fell in love with and is super easy to play and is pretty small is Trash Panda’s…
Star Realms is the other deck builder I mentioned previously as well. Super portable, just a deck of cards and super fun as a game you can take out, keeps the family off their damn smartphones so you get some real human interaction.
Want a quick, easy and super portable game? Try Left Right Center (Don’t worry no politics) we break this out at restaurants and at home. Super portable, easy to play and fun
If your kids enjoy that, I bet they’d like Qwixx too. I’ll have to check that one out. Love quick games to interact and play while out eating nowadays…
We also play Zombie Dice which is fun. Super easy game, just dice and a sheet of paper to keep score. You roll the dice, if you get brains you get one point, if you get feet that means the people ran away, and if you get the blast you can keep rolling until you get three blasts and then you are dead for that turn. First to 15 brains wins
