CGC Color Lifting Warning

I don’t know if this subject has been discussed before but as I was starting a new order to submit books to CGC for grading, I’m asked to acknowledge the following risk:

From the CGC website * SOME COMIC BOOKS WITH GLOSSY COVERS MIGHT EXPERIENCE “COLOR LIFT” WHEN REMOVED FROM A HOLDER, RESULTING IN A LOWER GRADE THAN BEFORE. SOME SIGNATURES WRITTEN WITH A “PAINT PEN” MIGHT LIFT OFF WHEN REMOVED FROM A HOLDER, RESULTING IN THE LOSS OF THE SIGNATURE.

This has always been somewhat of a concern to me. Has anyone ever experienced color lifting when removing a book from it’s holder? How much of a danger is this? Is this a concern specific to CGC, CBCS, PGX or something else?

My guess is they are seeing this with the crappy paper Marvel and IDW use a n recent years.

Not surprising. Makes you think twice about a crack and press/signature.

I would only be concerned about this occurring with modern books.

But this is more reason to press modern comics before grading…so you don’t have to ever crack them open to try again.
