Older cases I would agree. But the past couple years they switched to more robust sealed cases. They’re very similar to CGC but without the newton rings or scratches/scuffs.
CGC will not recognize/acknowledge CBCS witnessed or verified. CBCS doesn’t exist in their world.
You will receive a CGC green label.
MCS will be a 3rd party grader (slabbed books) in a few years. You heard it here first.
I have a completely different perspective as to which is better.
I view it as which one is the worst of the bad.
They are both awful and/or incompetent in at least one major way and I submit that if any of these grading companies were to operate in a truly competetive business environment in the real world with real competition - they’d both fold.
I choose the one that is going to cause me the lesser of the known forthcoming aggravation.
The things we do for money.
All I have to say when it comes to CGC vs CBCS is whenever I’ve had an issue with CGC it is easy to reach customer service. When I wanted to simply ask CBCS a question about a book I was considering getting graded they never got back to me after I finally figured out a way to contact them. As for PGX, their reputation was in tatters but is maybe coming back a bit.
I don’t think a comic that’s missing a piece off the front cover should be graded a 9.2. At the least it’s missing the surface layer at worst it’s missing the whole piece. Either way the grading companies need to get their stuff together. I’ve seen several CBCS books overgraded as well.
agreed, that is not a 9.2, certainly brings it below a 9.
Break it out of the case and just throw it in the trash, it’s not worthy of even being graded…
No, leave them in the case and mail them all to me. I’ll pay for shipping. Lol.
They putting on the heat on CBCS now. Free graders notes to all.

I kind of like that whole scan the QR code on the book deal.
Nice to get free grader notes however out of my last 75 cgc books only 18 had grader notes. 5 of the books with 9.8. CGC grader notes are sparse in general.
I’m just waiting for cases to have air tags in them that will be next.
A use for QR codes that actually makes sense, nice.
It’s a good move on CGC’s part, though the QR code is something CBCS has offered for years.
I’m also curious if CGC will become more diligent about adding grader notes or not.
I think it is time for grading companies to use the honor system. Just sign a waiver with then stating you know how to grade comics and you will be truthful …They send you the case and inner well. You use their program to print out the “appropriate” grade and graders note you gives, put it all together and bam! No more over or undegrading your books! Everything will be perfect!
I mean there’s obviously wiggle room in grading but a lot of these examples aren’t debatable in the least. I mean spine tics on a black cover stick out so I don’t understand how they miss them. It’s either there missing them or think dozens of color breaking spine tics warrant anything in the 9’s.
This approach will probably be more accurate than I’ve seen them do starting since all those new hires began grading Moderns
This is something I see with every ‘oversized’ cgc slab and it grinds my gears so much. Luckily I don’t have any oversized slabs, it just irks me so much, HOW HARD IS IT TO HIT CENTER ON THE VARIANT.
Aaaaaand CGC takes another hit.
Your move CBCS. PGX happy to be on the sidelines.
Here’s the CGC forum thread (before & after pics):
Here’s the CBCS thread discussion:
https://forum.cbcscomics.com/topic/18411/page/1/uh-oh-cgc-your-turn-in-the-barrel-again/
Just a quick summary, it appears UF4 books may have been “swapped” at the presser (CCS). But CCS is the presser CGC sends their books too…and under the same parent company. So still reflects poorly in CGC.
Assuming the accusations and photos are true (it is the internet, after all), the two books look different in that defects That could not have been corrected by pressing (color rub) have “disappeared”, while defects that should not be a result of pressing (color breaking spine ticks where there were no defects before) appeared.
For what it’s worth, CGC Mike is looking into the issue and has promised to get back to the people on the CGC forums
