CGC vs CBCS vs PGX vs PSA

I was seeing CGC feed on IG, and Todd was siging from 8am-12pm Mon-Fri. And still didn’t finish all the books. He had to take some home. So this book might of been one the last ones late at night. Sucks for this person.

The label says what day it was signed…but can’t make it out in this image.

Also looks like 4 big color breaking spine dents. That got an 8.0? Hard to tell in the photo.

Yeah, if you saw the full size photo, it was a fairly beat up copy. And he didn’t contest the grade. I think he was justified in his other complaints. For the money charged, the least they can do is use the right label.

My favorite is the unsigned book that is labels “certified witnesses signature.”

More proof of no QC at CGC. I can understand the witness and Todd missing it, but who put in the label and slabbed it? Good lord.

How about the slabs that were shipped unsealed…cases fell apart upon arrival.

Founded in 2014, CBCS quickly became a trusted resource for comic collectors seeking professional grading and authentication.

As we look ahead, we’re increasing our focus and investment in the core Beckett brand and expanding our broader grading capabilities. This includes continued development of our trading card and autograph authentication services, as well as ongoing hiring and team expansion across key areas of the business. These investments are focused on improving turnaround times, enhancing the customer experience, and strengthening the long-term value we provide to collectors.

As part of our strategy to focus on the Beckett brand, we’ve made the challenging decision to shut down CBCS. Effective April 17, new submissions will no longer be accepted. All existing orders, and any submissions received by that date, will continue through the grading process as normal.

The CBCS Population Report will remain available, and previously graded CBCS comics will remain documented in the CBCS database and population report.

Thank you to the collectors, partners, and supporters who have been part of the CBCS journey and helped build CBCS into a respected part of the comic collecting community.

R.I.P. CBCS

Surprised they didn’t just change CBCS into the Beckett branding instead. Guess their submission levels must of been very bad.

Less than a month’s notice seems harsh. I’m waiting to see how big of a SHOCKED!!!11 face Swagglehaus can make for his video thumbnail. :exploding_head:

Sad as they were much better at grading accurately and not damaging books in the process. I’d be more than happy to hear this coming from the idiots at CGC who should’ve been out of business a decade ago.

CGC is laughing all the way to the bank. They will be like “why are we even trying, let’s party!”

Until the decide they no longer want to maintain it.

This is not a shock. But what is a shock is that it’s not “transitioning” over to PSA. Probably is, but they want you to send your books into PSA for grading, rather than “merge” them.

Probably more like, hosting it that costs money. Once they put in the final submissions into the database, it’ll just sit there just serving up whenever a request is made. But since they run other parts of their business with websites, the costs would be super minimal I’d imagine.

Still a cost. Someone has to maintain it…keep the lights on. It’ll get axed in once someone “new” comes in and clean house. New people like to change things and cut costs to make it seem like they’re special.

Cbcs forums….wonder is this is true.

Earlier this week…it’s only Tuesday!

Yeah, not until after they get rid of the websites they’re running, just saying, a database with zero new updates will start to get fewer hits as time passes but ultimately, there’s no real maintenance on a read-only website that’s likely serving up other parts of their websites that get updated and maintained to stay current, so the costs are super low I’d imagine. Plenty of other sites could crawl and archive the information as well…

Surprised this happened so quickly after Collectors (who owns PSA) acquired Becket. Not surprised that they acquired CBCS’ assets and dissolved the brand, but surprised it happened so quickly.

PSA was the death bell for CBCS.
