CGC vs CBCS vs PGX vs PSA

I’m sure they’ve been taking detailed tolerance measurements of each and every slab during QC for their own self-assurance of consistent quality.
I mean, they’re just that type of company where Quality is #1

Looks within tolerance to me! :ok_hand:

I bet they didn’t have a cat 5 in mind as one of their 10/10 day surprises… sheesh

Yup…When that arrogance changes and they start catering to their customer’s needs better is when I will go back… Of course, there is CBCS and PGX if I really need to get some books grades ASAP…and PSA looming. CGC better get its act together before they become the “Sears” of collectible grading.

The scary part with CGC is no matter what scandal comes their way or being backed up yet again to where we are getting some slight tail end Covid TAT that sucks, CGC still keeps going.

They do because people make the most money off them, but the second that changes CGC will be in trouble. There is only so much people can take and even if it takes a decade to come to fruition, eventually the mighty will fall. If CGC doesn’t change their ways, they will only have themselves to blame. I’ve always liked them, but my life will go on just fine if CGC disappears from the marketplace. They are replaceable.

The difference between this scandal and all the other scandals is that the other scandals affect a very small part of their client base. With the reholder scandal only a very small minority were buying cgc 9.8s of Hulk 181s etc. Employees stealing your comics? Cgc can make whole by reimbursing you for your “lost” books. It’s not ideal but affected customers will get something back.

This time, the scandal affects everyone whether you slab 2 $50 books a year or dealers slabbing thousands for their business. This is something they have to fix.

Someone posted a graph in the cgc forum of total submissions added to the census and there’s been a sharp decline within the last several months. Cgc has been doing a crazy amount of creator signings to prop up that number but once that well runs dry and more people are aware of the problem, cgc can be in big trouble when they see the value of their slabs not commanding the premium they use to.

I was a bit let down about the immediate drama relative to PSA and their head grader, etc, etc. I was cautiously optimistic about PSA venturing into the field and actually would have sent some books to them fairly early once they got rolling to test the waters. May still do so, but I wish all that nonsense wouldn’t have played out. I suppose there will always be issues given the amount of money at stake however.

Should probably rename this thread to

Tony did yesterday or so :stuck_out_tongue:

PSA is going to fail. They should just stick to cards

They’re so tone deaf. Sadly I think I’m going to stick with Cgc once they figure out this banana stuff. There were some people in the cgc forum that posted mock ups of their version of a PSA label and it looked amazing, keeping their red border branding while making the grade number larger and just moving all the descriptions to the side… They took only a few minutes and they weren’t even graphic designers.

I’m pretty sure PSA is going to fail at this point. They’re already scrubbing the negative comments off their post.

As much as I’d love to see it, too much big money and comic key players invested/tied into CGC. Too much at stake. They will never allow another company to take over.

I was sorting through my graded books and because they were a bit mixed (CGC & cbcs) it made the difference in slabs stand out so much more. It really is a bit incredible how much sturdier, heavier & better constructed the CBCS case is. I guess I never sat and compared two slabs hand in hand, side by side. A marked difference.

I don’t know why these companies don’t do Marketing focus groups for label design.
Seems it would be worth the tiny investment.

I will never ever ever ever understand how an opinion on a label is superior over substance, business acumen, product quality, cost, etc… but comic folks are a strange lot indeed.

Thanks for posting. Was going to do this but too busy policing the New Comic Book Day thread.

I do plan on swinging by the tables for CGC, CBCS and especially PSA to see what’s up.
