CGC vs CBCS vs PGX vs PSA

https://www.cgccards.com/news/article/13730/

I’ve worked my entire life in statistics, metrics, and the creation of dashboards. Essentially number bullsh&t. It’s all about numbers, particularly these days. That said, there is nothing that irritates me more than Marketing putting out a statistic/numbers to manipulate readers into understating or overstating a topic. Look at this horsesh*t from CGC marketing. Only “.03%”.
Yea CGC marketing assholes… except the only .03% is super high end cards. Y’know… the ones that people paid thousands for and expect the certification to mean something. They’re not some random crap $20 cards.

Glad I never sent out my Pokemon cards to them. I was always tempted but held back.

GameStop offers to send them for you to PSA at way cheaper prices then PSA’s website. I’ve been wanting to send some in as I have some cards that are worth couple houndreds.

You can skip forward to 10:00 and get the gist.

Guys submits book with wrong cover.

CGC picks up on it , but rather than contact him, separates the cover from the book and grades the interior “no grade”.
Proceeds to labels the slab as if it were the cover, not the interior copy.

I know the guy made a mistake in the submission, and he’s new to comics…but CGC should not have graded it without asking.

Employee: Matt Nelson, what is the policy for incorrect book submissions with wrong cover
Matt Nelson: Grade the cover; grade the book; grade the backing board; grade the bag. Charge everything at the highest tier. Don’t tell anyone
Employee: Ahhh yea… sure.

New month, new CGC scandal.

oh dear. wth

A smudge doesn’t make it impossible to authenticate a signature. I’ve been really critical of CGC and annoyed by their constant missteps but this one seems like a reach…

Smudgegate here we come. I love a good ___gate conspiracy.

Watergate
Comicsgate
Elongate (lol)

I’m not sure what the FMV for a 9.8 is with a Stan sig, but I wouldn’t put out 10% FMV for those train wrecks in my PC; nor 25% of FMV to flip.
Who the hell would want those mussel infested boat anchors

Who is blowing big bucks to buy a Stan Lee sig? The man signed so, so much for decades. His signature must only boost value on something incrementally, yes? Not to start a debate, but I’d pay for Jack Kirby’s verified sig on something before Lee…

I have no skin in this game. I don’t buy signed comics…95% of mine were witnessed by me, and are only for me.

All this does is show how gullible people are.

Doesn’t even matter if it’s a smudged signature or fake……it’s authentically ruined.

I would not pay extra for any signature I could not authenticate personally. Show me the evidence that’s undeniable.

Now, if I came across a Signature in one of my books and was curious, I might send it in for authentication for the fun of it. But regardless there would always be reasonable doubt.

I agree that a smudged sig is not desirable, especially considering how many Stan Lee sigs there are out there. But an authenticated smudged Schomburg sig? I’d take it if I could!

Wanted autographs from one of my favorite shows of all time.
Rolled the dice with CGC for one lousy book. Just one lousy book for me.

The book was a perfect professionally pressed pancake with zero spine tics
Just got it back in the mail today and there are flames shooting out of my ears. Bent in the case like the Hulk got hold of it and now pretty significant spine tics that are clearly at the bend points.
It was a beautiful book at one time. Those son of a bitches at CGC. Seriously.
Fix your effin problem. I’m done.

 I can feel your anger coming across my computer screen. Sorry for the damage to your book, I’d be extremely pissed too if it was a treasured book for me.

So is bendgate still going on? I guess I should not be surprised. Unfortunately you can’t even talk about it on the CGC forums (wonder how that forum is doing nowadays, haven’t checked since the mass bannings)

It sure the F is… those incompetent bastards

That’s frustrating, sorry… I checked the notes and they say finger bends on the top right. Most likely from being handled. Did you have CGC press after the signing?

I had it pressed professionally and sent back to me from the presser (and then I sent off)

The spine tics are, with near 100% likelihood, created during the slabbing process and the subsequent bending due to whatever effed up process or not to specification materials.
At every single new “bend” point on the book from the slab, there is a spine tic.
This was done by them and they’re going to be hearing from me and I pity the customer support person
