That’s unacceptable that the bends in the slabs are still happening. Never should have happened in the first place. Can you show a picture from the side? Are the ticks color breaking?
When you reach out to CGC, I’d recommend texting so you can easily attach photos straight from your phone. They’ll be able to see the photos while communicating with you instead of asking you to email them and getting a response later from a different rep.
It has gotten to the point where if CGC threatens to ban a customer for complaining or going against whatever policy they have in place when it comes to outing their many, many problems, they would be doing that customer a favor. It has been over a year since I have submitted to them even though I would like to get a couple of dozen comics and magazines graded, the constant issues with either their grading practices/results and poor customer service have kept me from pulling the trigger. I’ve said it before, since CGC sold out to the highest bidder the quality keeps sliding. The new CGC simply doesn’t give a rat’s ass about their customers or the quality of the service they provide. As long as submissions keep coming in, they never will. Profit is 100% all they care about. Their constant failures to fix problems prove that to me, anyway.
I’ve had many cases that I’ve had to buff with Plastx or Meguiars to clear up the scuffs and other nonsense. Ultimately, as frustrating as that is, I can recognize iit’s not “the book” itself.
I hate it happens, but I can not have flames shooting out of the ears and ready to go ape shit on them.
Edit: I see there was a damaged one also… again… bastards.
They just don’t give a shit. And now it is our (my) books that are taking the hits and that’s where I draw a line. It’s beyond unacceptable. This has been going on for over a year
Remember when everyone was freaking out about the flood of 9.9s and 10.0s that were going to flood the market last year? Remember when THAT was the biggest issue with CGC, and not them actually damaging books?
Anyway, Bronzeville has been keeping tabs on the top 9.8s w/o a 9.9 or higher the past few years…seeing how many get added to the census…if you’re interested in how that’s all playing out, take a watch.
Honestly, I think the community is already standing up to them. Or at least definitely resenting and disliking them more now than the last 25 years.
It’s been mentioned on here from Convention sellers that very few potential customers even look at graded books. I can confirm I am experiencing the same.
Someone posted the submission amounts in yearly graph format. Submissions to CGC are down and they are continuing to move downward.
Prices - has anyone looked at CGC books in comparison to an “assumed” equivalent grade in raw? The raws often sell for more.
I believe people are truly pissed and a tremendous amount of resentment and attitude towards them as of late. They’ve always been under fire from a certain crowd, but now even those that use them and/or collect them have had it. Simply had it.
What’s crazy about this is that most sellers and buyers don’t know how to grade…so the sellers over grade, and the buyers “believe it” and spend more for less of a book.
So yes, that is happening…but I think those spending more for the raw think they’re getting a better book than they actually are…otherwise why not just buy the slab and crack the damn thing out?!
In my case, and I can only speak for myself - there is now danger that the book I crack out is damaged.
This damaging of books is the absolute worst thing they have not properly addressed. And there’s been alot of things to complain about over the yrs.
It is unconscionable how this started around March 2024 and it still is going on today 1 year later. And it’s routinely; not one-offs where an accident occurs. They are physically damaging our prized collectibles either due to process and/or design. Just saying it after a year and I can’t believe its real.
At this time I’m never sending in a book to CGC again. This isn’t going away.
I had sent in a few books last year before this hit the fan, and I can see the bow. None of them were higher than 9.4 anyway…and they overgraded them from what I was expecting back…
Now I won’t buy a book in 44 series or higher without examining it in person first. Even 43 series is iffy.
