Comic Picks of the Week (ongoing)

I’m not into it myself and feel it’s kind of degrading…

It’s not new though. Bondage covers in comics have a niche follow since the early days of comics.

Well, we can say that for a lot of things that we use to do, say, etc and felt okay with but not so much anymore…

She was kidnapped. Cant have her running around.

The cover was sold out in stores at Third eye. They pre-sold all their copies.

What everyone should be concerned about is that I’ve been tied up in @Anthony 's basement since 2016 and nobody seems to care…

You have plenty of reading material. Trust me, the world outside Anthony’s basement isn’t that great.

I’m torn on the cover. I do think it’s flip-worthy, and it’ll be under-ordered for sure. But, do I want to support that? Does it even matter? Who knows.

I don’t know that I’m supporting people being tied up when that’s not something I do in my real life by buying a comic book cover that depicts it. The same way I buy tons of her comix with graphic material but also don’t support murder or torture.

Interesting discussion.

I look at that cover and just see risk. Risk of being called out on social media for endorsing it. These days People rush to judgement and don’t care enough to try to understand and are more interested to make examples by tearing people down. Regardless of your true intentions it can be a nightmare trying to defend your credibility once it’s been dragged through hell.

Some people are comfortable with risk or don’t see it as risk. But for
Me if it feels a little uncomfortable I’m just going to steer clear.

There was no outrage over issue 1 Panosian cover. She is tied up and crying. It’s a kidnapping and is central to the story.

I find unease with many covers that get celebrated.

I don’t think covers are being celebrated. Just trying to point out what has a good possibility of selling.

FYI. No judgments here. None. This is 100% a me dilemma. It’s a really well done cover and will probably warm up. I might just opt out of this one and admittedly accomplish nothing by doing so. And man, where the hell do you draw the line with this type of thing. I have no idea.

I’m 100% for real people being tied up if they consent to it and enjoy it. I’m 0% for it in any nonconsenual manner. In fiction, it takes a lot for a story to make me truly uncomfortable/grossed-out/weirded out. I usually understand if something is happening in the context of a story, and am more likely to find certain tropes more annoying to see in a story than disturbing. That said, sometimes a tale will hit me just right/wrong.

Examples:

Cabin Fever, when the girl with the flesh-eating virus still wants to shave her legs due to her vanity. We don’t see her shaving the actual legs but the sound effects of it were utterly disturbing and made me feel sick to my stomach for the first time ever at a movie.

The Sixth Sense and the idea a bunch of ghosts are just walking around us looking disturbing because of their manner of death. I don’t even believe in ghosts, but it was just a freaky flick.

That Alan Moore HP Lovecraft-themed comic with the incredibly graphic and visceral scene of sexual assault that then incorporates a creepy water-monster and is just uncomfortably brutal.

This probably relates to why I like made-up horror movies with Freddy or Jason brutally murdering people, but often dislike documentaries or fictional accounts of real-life killers. It is sad when it ACTUALLY happened.

Same here, I love horror and made up content my wife loves the true crime. The true crime just makes me paranoid and pisses me off.
