Comics Cooling Down - When to Pounce!

Wow.

The weird thing is how Star Wars doesnā€™t like to intermingle comic stories with the live action. So this really hurts characters like Aphra where you really canā€™t introduce her without messing with comic continuity.

My LCS may have this a bit over pricedā€¦

Even at its peak I donā€™t think this book hit $400ā€¦

Heck, you can buy the 1:25 for that!
So absurd.

I think the highest this book hit at its peak was around $600. Right now, they are selling for around $125-150 in a 9.8. Such a huge fall from grace. At this point, even if Doctor Aphra shows up in a TV show or even movie, how much will this book even go up to at this point or even a few years down the road? You know Marvel/Disney at this point is too busy trying not to do much of anything with characters that have been in the books. Look at The Acolyte and The High Republic set of books, we are probably now sitting on a crap ton of HR books that will never sell.

The smartest play with Star Wars comics at this point (if that is something you want to focus on or even care about) is to stick to books that are pertinent to anything Sith related/Dark Side of the Force, etc.

Characters like Darth Revan, Darth Bane, Darth Malak, Darth Talon, Darth Nihilus, and Darth Krayt have a pretty significant following aside from the comics themselves. Iā€™ve always found characters like these who have a big following (not just these Star Wars ones) to be very smart comic book buys. The various horror related characters/comics as another example (although they havenā€™t bottomed out like Star Wars has).

I get so many buyers who arenā€™t necessarily comic book collectors per se, but want the books/covers with their favorite characters on them. Given the buy low opportunities right now on Star Wars, I continue to pick these characters books up as much as possible if they are priced accurately and not still at Covid prices.

Now is probably the best time to buy Darth Vader #3. At some point Disney will get its act together and we will get better Star Wars and Marvel properties. That may take a few years realistically so until then books like this one can be picked up on the cheap. Aphra isnā€™t going anywhere and at some point will make it to the big/small screenā€¦hopefully when things are better at the studio.

Daaaaaamn.

Such a great cover with the Murder Droids too. This also is not an easy book to get a 9.8ā€¦very susceptible to color rubbing off the back spine. So itā€™s not like there will be an influx of 9.9s keeping 9.8s down.

Donā€™t do that. Donā€™t give me hope.

Huge Aphra and Murder Droid fan here! Iā€™m waiting for the prices on DV3 4th print to come down as I have 1st-3rd prints but need the last one for the run.

Iā€™m not worried about the popularity of comic based Doctor Aphra and murder droids as they are extremely interesting. What I am worried about is, how is how those characters are going to be effed up by Disney on screen. If introduced in something Filoni/Favreau is involved with, thereā€™s a feeling of positivity. Anyone else - negativity. Like, stuck in a trash compactor thatā€™s closing with no R2-D2 to stop it.

Triple Zero, BeeTee1, Doctor Aphra - 4 Life :boom:

I donā€™t know Pittsburgh, The top brass at Disney/Luccasfilm keep doing the same thing over and over. It is a formula that isnā€™t working and costing the studiosā€¦and shareholders a lot of money. The fanbase for most properties are largely very unhappy as well. This isnā€™t for just a few months now but roughly half a decade. I canā€™t see how this can hold out much longer without a complete riot by investors/shareholders. At some point there will be a fairly large shakeup and when that happens hopefully the heads that role will be Iger and Kenedy; not other scapegoats. We all just have to wait and see. Hopefully not too long.
