Dirty D's F.O.C

I read the first issue of Red Roots and it was well written. After reading it I have no idea where they are going with it. I’m hoping all the praise from industry people is based on more than reading just the first issue.

That’s a lot of Indie #1’s. Anybody have any premonitions on these? It’s like picking penny stocks this FOC. Any could hit; any could miss.

I preordered some copies of red roots just so I wouldn’t have to deal with the fomo crowd at release. So, I prefomo’d into the book. The 1 hour Felici interview didn’t say much of anything about the series. Oh well.

yea this one is being pumped. Mignola doing a cover for it is interesting but even the synopsis was one sentence so a lot of guessing on this one…

That was my thinking as well…a lot of “praise” but like White Sky image holding the details tight to the chest.

I can totally see this one getting wrapped up in a little FOMO with help from people pumping it up again week of release. I ordered just one copy I think just in case it’s hard to find around me.

This one didn’t make the cut (cover spec). Reminded me of the Superman 32 manga variant….but did not “wow” me like that cover did. This cover is mostly “meh”. What happened to Lois’s nose?

Another “honorable mention” that didn’t make the cut.

Mostly because I was already done and didn’t feel like going back to add another book.

For one, only two covers (A and a 1:10 incentive).
Secondly, it says before FOC distribution may be allocated given its distributed through Diamond (?) and you know what that does to some people…

It sounds like it could be interesting, worst case.

I’m fired up about Red Roots only because the last time di Felici wrote and drew a book, it was Kroma, and that’s still one of my favorites.

I did the same thing. Pre-ordered 3 copies of the A cover and 3 copies of the Mignola cover, just in case if it does anything. Looks interesting enough with a great creative team.

I’m not doing the Wednesday warrior fomo thing on release day. It’s always a hit or miss if there are any shelf copies. Always best to pre-order to avoid the crowds. You don’t have to hit on all your picks to come out ahead.

Well done, @Anthony .

While I have a few free moments from my captors, instead of calling for help I’ll choose to make a few more picks.

Comics The Magazine #3. Cool Eastman Turtles cover.

A couple other Indy’s I actually pre-ordered because the solicitation sounded interesting/different.

Killswitch #1 (of 4). Sort of Blade Runner meets invasion of the body snatchers.

In 2067 Los Angeles, consciousness is currency. When corporate thief Atlas jumps off a skyscraper to escape authorities, he doesn’t die—he wakes up in the body of Kate Sloan, a comatose cop. In a world where neurolink chips allow the dead to hijack the living, Atlas works with his handler Smitty to steal crypto codes from corrupt Elysium executives. But when he’s ready to jump to his next body, he discovers Sloan has a daughter—and she knows he’s not her mother. The explosive new sci/fi thriller where nobody is who they seem!

Seven Wives #1. Not what we’d usually see from IDW.

Forty-nine witnesses, seven wives, one dead husband. On Monday, April 17, at 9:04 a.m., two police detectives are dispatched to investigate a death on a Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints compound in remote Arizona. Matthew Dunn, the patriarch of the Dunn family, has been found stabbed on the pulpit of his temple, basking in the blood-soaked gaze of his savior.Detectives Aguilar and Halwell begin the arduous task of questioning each of Matthew‚Äôs seven wives and quickly encounter a brick wall of memorized Scripture, canned platitudes, and locked lips. It becomes clear that the women intricately braided hair, voices with sweet affectations, and modest clothing arent just signs of Matthew brainwashing but armor they use to protect their family. But with each interrogation, the cracks begin to show abuse, the truth of living and surviving in this cult‚ and the detectives uncover the unholy gospel of Matthew Dunn.

Alright…my time is up. Gotta run!

Literally, has to run, banjo music coming…

Sicko

Valentine Virago has always struggled with her health. Her rare autoimmune disorder she’s had since she was a kid has defied all treatment, and as she grew older, it defied even classification. You see, Valentine can take her immune system and weaponize it. What would just be a normal sneeze to the rest of us, she can turn into a projectile of bloody miasma. Just as a start.

Fed up with being a test subject for pushy doctors, Valentine has gone on the lam in search of the freedom to be herself. Unfortunately, interested parties want her back in their care, and they are sending goons in hazmat suits, led by her one-time nurse and potential love interest, Jono. He’s offering her a spot in a private medical facility run by his parents, where others like her with maladies that aren’t found in any textbook can find solace.

Val isn’t one for institutions, however, and what some may see as a safe haven, she sees as a prison—and what is a prison but something you need to break. Can she organize the rest of the patients to escape with her, or will she be on her own once again?

For every 5 copies of The Dogsitter #1 ordered, retailers will be eligible to order a pack of 20 ashcans promoting the upcoming series Sicko.

COVERS

DC/Marvel: Superman/Spider-Man #1 (Dan Mora - 2nd Print)
Has Dan Mora ever drawn Spider-Man? Let me know…although this one-shot had too many variants to begin with, I do like Mora’s Superman and now Spider-Man…so kinda cool to see them on the same cover.

image

DC/Marvel: Superman/Spider-Man #1 (Yasmine Putri - 2nd Print)
Marvel needs to give Yasmine Putri more Venom cover work. Would like to see more, and she seems to draw the spider characters well.

image

Justice League Unlimited #19 (Mario Fox Foccillo)
A little bit of a sleeper pick here…seeing how the Foccillo manga style variant of Superman #34 still sells well and holds value.

NOTABLE REPRINTS

image

Eightball #1 (2026 Facsimile)
One of the most iconic comic books in history, Daniel Clowes presents a self-described “Orgy of Spite, Vengeance, Hopelessness, Despair, and Sexual Perversion”! Originally published in August, 1989, this timeless classic includes the first chapters of Clowes’s graphic novels “Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron” and “Young Dan Pussey,” as well as the short stories “Devil Doll” (parodying Jack Chick comics), “The Laffin’ Spittin’ Man,” and “What Is the Most Important Invention of the Twentieth Century?” Celebrate 50 years of Fantagraphics Books with this one-time rerelease!
Popular independent book from the 80s and 90s gets the fax treatment.

image

Silver Surfer #4 - 2026 Facsimile (Foil Variant)
This book needs no introduction. There have been no shortages of reprints over the years with Fantasy Masterpieces and such, but I’m really interested to see this in foil.

POTENTIAL FIRSTS

image

It’s Jeff: Brand New Week #1
Since he made his debut, Jeff the Land Shark has enjoyed the company of the Marvel Universe’s greatest heroes - but all he wants is to be left alone after he runs into a clingy septapus named Ken! When they find themselves stuck together in a tricky predicament, will Jeff put aside his grievances in time to help them both escape? Plus, revisit some of Jeff’s earliest encounters with Deadpool and Elsa Bloodstone! Collecting material from JEFF WEEK (2025), DEADPOOL (2019), and MARVEL AGE (2023) #1000.
Looks like a short story introducing Ken the Septapus, plus some reprinted material.

image

Amazing Spider-Man #30
SPORE is spreading, and it’s all SPIDER-MAN’s fault! But should Peter even BE fighting in a tragedy of his own making?! And DON’T MISS the answers to an earth-shattering riddle from the battle with Torment in ASM/VENOM “Death Spiral”!
Not sure if Spore appears in a prior issue…maybe #29. But the regular cover this looks to be his first cover (tied with a few variants of this issue), if not first appearance.

image

Capes #7 (Cory Walker & Patricio Delpeche Variant)
The acclaimed team of BENITO CERENO and MARK ENGLERT introduce the biggest mission in CAPES history! With INVINCIBLE off-planet fighting the Viltrumite War and the new Guardians of the Globe battling The Order, now’s the time for Capes, Inc to become the face of superpowered crime-fighting. But has Bolt already made the one mistake that could doom CAPES? Plus, the FIRST APPEARANCE of ELLA MENTAL, all-new INVINCIBLE UNIVERSE character from the soon to be hit Invincible VS game, in the first chapter of new backup stories by Invincible creators ROBERT KIRKMAN and CORY WALKER!
She’s on Cover A (sort of), but if the character took off I’d think people would rather have this cover which she is featured in full art.
