Dirty D's F.O.C

The Henchman discussion reminded me of Henchgirl.
Whatever happened to that title? Hottest thing for quite some time. “Well written”, etc…
And now it’s seemingly gone. :man_shrugging:

She blew up with Scout. Ended up going and working with Dark Horse. Scout was pissed. All efforts in promoting the book went out the window.

I don’t collect the NSFW stuff and don’t even spec on it usually but for some reason when I saw it while browsing FOC pre-orders, I decided to order a couple of this variant thinking it could see demand. Almost missed the deadline to order on MCS because I left it so late.

I liked Henchgirl. First big hit at Scount. Then went to Dark Horse and yeah, crickets.

Has anyone noticed this sneaky little thing that Bad Idea is doing? They’re printing their comics now on newsprint (which I very much like), but instead of lowering the cost of the comic because it’s cheaper to produce they kept the price at $5.99 a book. F%$#**ers

It’s a shame that Bad Idea has some of the best creators that I like and I had this on my radar as I title I would like but I’m not buying it based on principle.

I did notice that on the vampire book.

I dont think Newsprint is substantially cheaper than the normal paper comics are printed on now.

A search with AI results:

Yes — newsprint is typically the most cost-effective paper for printing comics, but there are trade-offs. Let me break down the main options so you can decide what’s best depending on your goal (cheap distribution vs. premium look).

Pros

  • Very cheap to produce
  • Lightweight → cheaper shipping
  • Classic “vintage comic” feel
  • Works well for black-and-white or simple color

Cons

  • Ink absorbs into the paper → colors look duller
  • Yellows and deteriorates over time
  • Lower perceived quality

Historically, comics were printed on cheap newsprint until the early 1990s, when major publishers switched to coated paper for brighter colors and durability.

Newsprint itself is designed to be low-cost wood-pulp paper used for newspapers and similar publications.

:point_right: If your priority is lowest cost per issue, newsprint is usually the winner.

They’re also printing in black and white, newsprint…$5.99

Nope

Oh its black and white too, ya the cost gets more when you saturate the colors. Definitely cheaper for black and white

i missed the newsprint days. Classic for the way comics are published and who can deny that vintage smell!

But not for $5.99 though… they’re just boosting their profits with such tactics. I’m with @SpicyWasabi , love most of the writers and creators behind most of the books but I can’t bring myself to support Bad Idea… they’re terrible!

Sounds like a bad idea.

But I am all for going back to newsprint. Especially if it can help keep cost at $3.99 per book.

The Assorted Crisis Events #8 was newsprint.

How many pages of art? Maybe they’re paying their creators better.

Its been 7 years since Marvel did a facsimile for Amazing Fantasy #15 but Marvel and DC can pump out facsimiles for Man of Steel and Civil War. No one wants this crap. They are dollar bin books.

I wonder if Marvel will drop another AF15 facsimile printing later this year with the Spidey movie hype.

They are doing another Spider-Man 121 before the movie. It’s available in regular and “blue foil” which I have not seen used before.
