Dollar Bin Diving

I have tried to find them in my area and no luck.

It’s true, I don’t get it either… I remember Spider-Gwen #3 and Uncanny Inhumans #11 getting up there for a while, but that’s it really it. And they are incentive variants and the inhumans book is a key.

There are so many great Putri covers our there for cover or less but I’m really not looking to sit on more books!

Somebody make this easy for my local shops and tell me what comics to look for. I need a list. I’m lazy.

Be on the lookout this week for Batman #145 (2024) Cover C-Putri variant. All the cheap copies have disappeared on Ebay. There are only CGC copies left. Last few sold for $15 each. Very cool cover and you can probably still find on racks.

Good hunting!

I love you a little bit extra now. If you ever get out to Saint Louis I’ll take you to all the secret spots I find my good comics. You can’t ever move here and be permanent competition, however. :stuck_out_tongue:

I use CLZ and keep a ā€œwish listā€ there. Basically anytime CHU-folk reference a warming book, I add it there.

I dug in a dollar bin for Batman Putri books. Just A covers. But I did find this sweet Scalera 1:25 for a buck.

Some of those are variants, I failed to note that but when I create lists I know in my head what they are.

Man. It’s just amazing how far Marvel spec has fallen. I found these two super clean copies in a dollar bin. Even though I have a few copies of each already, I grabbed them. Checked prices on eBay, and many people have the set listed for like $10 and it isn’t selling. Just crazy.

Oh well. I found a few others that were worth grabbing. I’m really digging the EC/Oni Press revival of those old horror titles. For a buck, yep.

I sold the FF 272 and 273 as a set for $90 when it got hot back in the day lol.

I would not be surprised if a large majority of the comic book spec is just speculators passing the books around to other speculators as there’s just a lot of folks who don’t care about it whatsoever.

Comic book collecting and even speculating are very niche now, we’re kind of a rare breed nowadays for the most part. Out of my circle of friends, I’d say 95% don’t even read nor collect comics. Then I have a few that will buy to read but don’t care about value, spec, etc, the value is in reading for entertainment.

I think this is the case, too. It’s why I rarely touch indie spec in particular. The hot potato game is so fast anymore.

It’s amazing how much the game has changed. Found this in a dollar bin.

Wow. I would never be able to find that by me. All of the comic shops are usually picked clean. And I got quite a few by me.

It was at a little mini-show today. Like 8-10 sellers at a VFW in town. Most of the vendors were the standard, less attractive tables. But, this one was reasonably organized, cleaned up, and tidy.

It’s amazing. If you want me (and apparently most people) to avoid your table, do the following:

  • Have ratty, yellow short/long boxes.
  • Have books that look like they’ve been rifled through 392 times, with some things bagged, some not, some open, some falling apart.
  • Force me to math overpriced books with a discount. "This $13 book with 3 spine tics is priced at $22, but there’s a 30% discount on all books.

Sure, you sometimes find gold there. But more often than not, I find overpriced, meh books.

I love little shows at VFWs or gymnasiums. Good stuff can be found!
