Another s#!+ policy eBay started this year was on promoted listings. It used to be, they didnāt charge the fee unless the final buyer actively clicked through a promoted spot. Now eBay charges that fee if ANYONE has clicked on a promoted listing within 30 days, even if that person ultimately did not buy it.
Total crap and you can pretty much guarantee any listing that you promote now will have that fee attached.
Goodbye, promoting.
I used to promote everything at 1%. After they bumped it to a minimum of 2%, which I could stomache and noticed my sales were good.
I stopped promoting altogether once the new attributed promoted model update. I find it outrageous that you will be sacked with a promoted listing fee even though the end buyer didnāt even click on one of your promoted listing but someone else did in the last 30 days.
This was a big deal in the reseller world and they were all up in arms about it. It wasnāt really talked about much in the collectibles world. I suspect not many people knew about it and just kept paying the fees.
I turned off all promoted listings and havenāt noticed any difference tbh.
I donāt really sell yet, but as a buyer I always hated promoted listings. Itās almost never the thing Iām looking for and they shove it to the top of the list like it still matters so it just clogs up the results.
The only thing that pisses me off more searching for comics is when I search for a ālotā of something and people start listing āLot of 1ā or use the word Lot somewhere in their random grab bag crap. I would kill for a search feature that would let me filter by the actual number of items. I donāt want to order one, the shipping is almost never worth it. And I donāt want to order from someoneās 10,000 comic grab bag scam but theyāll probably still cheat the system and list as packs of 5 or something.
I knew about it. Some of the Tubers were up in armsā¦and said they were going to see if opting out impacted their sales. Then never heard of it again.
Iāve never promoted listings and have done just fine, sonIve had no real incentive to promote.
Iām not sure if Iāve ever bought a promoted listing. Even if it matches my search, 99.9% of the time the promoted listing is overpriced compared to equivalent items just below it.
So I have to think the vast majority of buyers are capable of looking down (or scrolling down slightly) and will find my items for sale at a better price (if I have it priced right).
So yeah, if I price something right itās going to sell. Promoted or not. So I pass on giving eBay more money for no benefit.
I, personally, have never promoted a listing. I feel like if I list something, someone will be bound to be looking for it, at some point. Whether it sells in an hour or takes a bit, who knows?
I also do not promote.
I like having inventory, I manage my inventory well, something not getting views or likes in 30 days is rotated out for something else, Mercari has no limits so I keep everything up and running on there. But for eBay, I try to keep about 200 rotating items at a time.
I tried promoting once a while back because they had offered a 30 day freebie. Increased views a little but didnāt translate to a bump in sales. Was thinking of trying it out again but then they changed the fee policies on promoting and no thank you. I pay enough fees to eBay as it is.
If you have a credit card that has no foreign fees, canāt you use that credit card and DO NOT select PAY with USD, use the COUNTRY of ORIGIN to pay. That way you can avoid āspecialā fee? eBay always been nickle and diming, but sadly they are the main planform for re-seller. eBay reminds me alot like Marvel - always raising prices but services / quality been on the decline. Miss the good old day where there was coupon like $15 OFF $75 or 15% OFF order 100 above. Lastly, also when does a Mofo stop being a Mofo? - Now that a rant.
