Me too. And suddenly I am singing the theme song.
Does anything ever pop for the cover art alone? Really digging the Iron Man 18 cover.
Iāve been buying all the Iron Man covers. Alex Ross never disappoints.
@nerdynashville
Absolutelyā¦one of the very best examples I can think of in the last few years is Batgirl #23
There have been a decent number in the last few years that have. The webhead Gleason stuff being the most prominent I can think of in the last year. The Iron Man 12 variant for Miles is another one I can think of. (Mainly because I looked into it when I saw it on our top Marvel issues sold last year lists I made.)
All good choices. Do you prefer the B&W Gleason or any specific color (the different printings) ?
I also like (regular price variants):
X-23 vol 4 #7 (Deodato)
Mockingbird #2 (Nen Chang)
Tec #880 is the best example
Lucked out on one copy at an LCS for cover price, before the LCS caught on and marked up all its books.
Good to know. Some Iām picking up just cause I love the cover:
Devils Reign Villians for Hire 3 Nakayama Variant
Devils Reign 5 cover a
Iron Man 18
Alien 9
All the Fornes Window Shade Variants
Amazing Spider-Man 93 Cover A
Star Wars 21
I pick most of the newer books based on covers, with the hope that the story is good. A.Hughes and Campbell covers are a given. Iāve slowed down on Delotto, Artgerm. Given up on Momoko. Started to pay some attention to Dekal, Coipel and Middleton.
I grabbed the Hulk 1 Momoko cover cause I thought it was really quite beautiful. Huge juxtaposition from what Ottley is doing in the book. I avoid most of her covers though. Too much empty space. I think she could do much better but has kind of turned in to a one trick pony. Would love to see her push herself. Iād buy more if the style developed some.
I agree with your take on Hulk 1 Momoko. And I, too, would LOVE to see her artwork evolve beyond what weāre seeing now. The problem I see with that is sheās probably slammed with soo much cover work that she probably needs to churn 'em out quick (Disclaimer: my opinion).
Keeping an eye on Sozomaika too.
Ross covers are great, but never seem to catch fire. The Batman Store Variant cover he did is worth $$$, and really good. I dont usually buy store variants, so didnt try for it. Kael Ngu comes close to his realistic type art, and has some good covers too.
Wish the cover art AND the story could be good most of the time.
Iām pretty sure that Nen Chang Variant for Mockingbird #2 was a 1:25. Stunning cover.
I am not sure. It was on the LCS wall on release and I paid cover for it. Thought it looked cool ! Dont think its a pricey book, even now.
Things have changed since then. I used to be one of the few that would frequent LCSās on new comic book day. But I was an ignorant collector, really shopped for cool covers and great stories. Things have changed - some good, some bad, but it is what it is, just need to adjust.
Update: Looks like its the 1:25, the store might have had it up by mistake.
Anyone know where to find this #7 cover by Stegman? Itās on FOC this week, but I canāt find any sign of it.
There is a one per store variant, this might be it.
Ah, that makes sense. Thanks!
