Access for 4-inch vinyl figures. I don’t think this changes an exclusive license for repressing a vinyl record or printing a lithograph or print. It does give them more resources, however. If they can leverage that with their existing licensor relationships to obtain licenses for a greater scope of goods, Mondo could look like a much more competitive player.
Now I need to ask myself if I am a sucker…

Mondo, for its part, commented, “We are still the same company that started in the theater lobby… only now with even more resources to support our vision. We can’t wait to show you what’s next.”
Funko intends to run Mondo the way it has managed Loungefly, the apparel and accessories brand it acquired in 2017, according to Perlmutter: “Mondo will operate as a unique brand in the portfolio, gradually integrating into common back-end functions where it increases efficiency or makes sense.”
I think this will be a longterm selling point to Funko’s existing licensors. As I said above, the acquisition of a vinyl record licensee by a vinyl figure company does not translate to those vinyl figure licenses transferring or expanding into Mondo’s portfolio or permitting them to produce vinyl records based on those vinyl figure licenses. Nor vice versa. I think what will happen is that bit-by-bit, contract by contract, as exclusives expire, Funko will begin pitching it’s production efficiencies through Mondo and its distribution network through Funko and trying to expand existing licenses. This may take years to come to fruition.

Meh. Id be more excited if there SDCC Funko exclusives of cancelled shows. That would be unique…

Things have been a bit quiet, but it seems there is another set of POPs that are heating up!
FLCL (Fooly Cooly) is an anime that is old enough to drink now! The series premiered in Japan in the ancient year known as 2000 and was a quiet hit. It wrapped up in 6 episodes and remained dormant for a couple of years.
In 2003, the series received an English dub and premiered on adultswim. It became a massive success and one of adultswim’s most watched and replayed shows. While not on the same massive appeal as say Dragon Ball or Naruto, FLCL has developed a great cult following. It eventually received two sequel series in 2018. Recently, adultswim has announced that it will receive 2 more sequel series which will premiere in 2023. Of course, news of new episodes has made the POPs heat up!
FLCL has a great cult following, but it only ever received 4 POPs. It didn’t even get store or con exclusives. For the most part, these 4 POPs quietly sat at store shelves and were easy to pick up. However, like I said, that recent announcement has sent them climbing.
Haruko and Canti are the current frontrunners. Haruko is an alien girl who is looking for Atomsk, a being of pure energy. By absorbing him, Haruko hopes to gain his powers for her own use. Canti is a robot who, after getting hit in the head by Haruko, becomes a friendly protagonist.
Naota is the main protagonist of the first series. He is a teenager who lives at home with his dad and grandpa and is eventually possessed by Atomsk which leads to an epic guitar battle. Seriously, check out one of the final battles. Spoilers, for sure, but you can see how epic and surreal the show got.
Mamimi is Naota’s brother’s girlfriend. Naota’s brother is older than him, and as a result, Naota looks up to him and considers him someone to aspire to. He hangs out with Mamimi a lot as a result and eventually develops a crush on her.
You can probably still find these at collectible shops or at local comic cons for under $20. Out of all them, the best one to load up on is Haruko. She is a central figure to the entire FLCL series as her quest to find and absorb Atomsk is a continuous backdrop.

Hell-bent for Funko!
This is the first time a Judas Priest band member gets a POP, and of course, it would start with Rob! It will be a common, so you’ll be able to find them at stores near you. Hoard a bunch! This will be worth it a year from now.

Credit where credit is due: Walmart actually packaged these decent. Most of that probably comes from the fact that these already ship ore-packaged in their own protectors, but still. 6/6 mint figures arrived.
