I decided to make a thread on this after discussion in the comics heating up thread.
I’ve read & heard thoughts about Junkyard Joe #6 being “The Northerners” first appearance, but I feel like that may not be the case. Certainly up for debate but I believe Geiger #6 (the Mad Ghost, first series dated September 2021) is.
The book specifically is discussing the “Unnamed” and this page, image is presented.
Yes…they don’t refer to him as “The Northerner” but an image of an African American union soldier referred to as the Historian pretty much fits the bill.
Just as the image above it with an immortal revolutionary war combatant is clearly RedCoat.
And again, the page, text is clearly discussing and stated the “unnamed”.
Junkyard Joe #6 was dated May 2023.
I even think it could easily be argued that this book (Geiger #6) is Redcoats 1st appearance versus the Geiger 80 page giant (Feb 2022)
Here is the page…if an outline of a non-distinct soldier can be argued as The Northerners first then I say this beats it…
Thoughts?
The fact that they’re refered to as “the Imortal” and “the Historian” pretty much confirms that Redcoat and the Northerner and not just some random soldiers, good catch.
I pretty much had the worst day ever at work. So at lunch I went to the comic shop around the corner that I get recent new issues for $1 each and bought as many copies of Geiger and Redcoat as I could find. This was all based off the conversations you guys have been having on here. I have the first run of Geiger. Oh. Also picked up Hyde Street. I got issue one when it first came out but got as many issues of the subsequent issues as they had. Now to find Rook.
Read Hyde Street. It’s such a good Twilight Zone take. First issues are character focused. Plot starts coming in around 5-6. It’s my favorite book at the moment.
I keep thinking that at some point it’s going to become known how good it is, and maybe it’ll get a bit of an Ice Cream Man type of heating up. Maybe not. Worst case, it’s a great read.
