Yeah I feel like they took me too far into the future….and I know they probably want to use that to build some stories, but sheesh!
I’d suggest Warren Ellis Planetary as a palette cleanser.
I’m enjoying Ben Reilly: Spider-Man. I’m not overly familiar with his story only that the Clone Saga was way too confusing and he is a clone of Parker… but this book is a good read IMO.
i like the new dark horse series Breakout. not a ton happens in the first issue but it sets up a great-sounding story: alien sci-fi heist teen romps are usually fun.
The Moon Knight show show has converted me into an MK fan. After watching the first episode I bought the Lemire collection, then later the Bendis collection and I found the Ellis tpb for $3, and now the first McKay trade. Boy oh boy do I like the new comic run. I can’t wait for the vol 2 tpb in September.
Some good reading for you!
I liked the 1st issue as well and will be coming back for #2.
Thought it was Dent’s kid?
Corky Baxter. Older, obscure character.
So similar to @Devildog I started picking up Scorched for the covers. I’m a sucker for a cross-publisher homage cover like Batman 118 parody of Spider-Man 1, Shadow Warzone paradox of Days of Future Past, etc. So I HAD to have the Scorched parody of Jim Lee’s X-Men.
Just two days ago I started reading them and I am REALLY enjoying the story. I’m not all caught up on the main Spawn title, but I’ve been reading the spin offs (Gunslinger & Scorched thus far.) They’re enjoyable and the art is amazing. So much so that I feel compelled the build the Scorched team in action figures as Gunslinger, She-Spawn, and Redeemer have all been released. Medieval is the next Kickstarter, which I’ll be backing.
Books I have read recently I liked:
- Spawn Gunslinger - excellent series.
- Avengers:X-Men: Eternals Judgement Day - I liked where this was going.
- Flashpoint Beyond - really like this one.
- Batman: One Dark Knight - really great comic/novel.
- Avengers Forever - Surprising …. Not bad so far.
I feel like Spawn-related stuff is a good read when someone besides his actual creator is writing it. Take that as you will.
To each their own. Myself and a few others on this forum are enjoying Gunslinger, written by Todd.
I’ve been reading Asimov’s Foundation series. For the first two books I was like “wow this is really not enjoyable.” Every scene is basically two people having a conversation and discussing things that either happened elsewhere off-camera or is about to happen off camera. Literally the epitome of telling and not showing.
Fast-forward and I’m on book five. The style hasn’t changed. Somehow I just got hooked. It is remarkably slow paced and not much action at all. I just keep reading it for some reason.
I haven’t read much by him so that isn’t my opinion so much as what I’ve heard. I’d be willing to read his writing when I have time. My comic backlog is massive of stuff to read…
I read book one and thought, “huh, this is kinda terrible.” You’re right. Two people talk, magically solve an impossible situation, then fast forward 50 years and do it again. And again…
Have you all read any of Peter Clines Threshold Universe books? 14, The Fold, Dead Moon, and Terminus. An alternate dimension with a Cthulu type monster stuff. I just love the series. His newest, Broken Room, isn’t necessarily in the same universe, but some things hint at it. He said, “if you find connections, that’s cool. They weren’t really intentional.” The audiobooks are great.
It really bugs me on a deep level because I love sci fi. For some reason I have this inner gatekeeper that tells me I need to like Asimov if I like sci-fi. Maybe there are big fantasy people who feel the same for Tolkien.
I’ve just never really thought Asimov’s stuff sparked any wonder in my mind.
God kills a thousand kittens every time Todd writes an issue…
The world building is seductive. It draws you in because it’s so much based on plausible science and human nature … you start thinking “yeah, we could do that…”
I’m about halfway through The Fade Out and really enjoying it.
