He and Tom King collaborated on a solid run of, “Grayson.”
I really like Animal Castle. It is the only comic series I am actually reading right now. It is basically stories from an Animal Farm setting illustrated beautifully.
Just finished reading Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow. A really good take on Supergirl, without any of the “I’m Superman’s petulant cousin” nonsense, yet makes her a distinctly different character to Clark.
Also just read Quad: Terah and Elvis #1 from Behemoth. Quite a promising start and I will be back for #2
First issue of We Have Demons was very good. Can’t wait for issue 2. I’ve always been a fan of Scott Snyder’s writing.
This is an odd one, but I’m reading DC’s “Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles”. For as out there of a premise, it’s not bad. On the 2nd issue, but looking forward to the rest.
Just finished reading Moon Knight Devils Reign #1.
Story - 4/10
Artwork - 3/10
Character Progression - 0/10
I am a Moon Knight fan, but this was a lame issue. An issue dedicated to Moon Knight yapping with convicts in prison. Personally, the artwork reminded me of Japanese anime, which I can’t stand. The story was very vanilla bland and nothing to add to his regular series. If your a fan, you’ll buy it and try to like it. For me - a swing and a miss.
Finished reading Batman - One Dark Knight. Now THAT is how I like my Batman stories.
Story - 8/10
Artwork - 8/10
Character Progression - 8/10
Well rounded first issue that sets the stage with GCPD, Batman, Vasquez, and others with these new prisons for the Gotham nut jobs. Can’t wait to read issue #2.
That’s one I’ve been meaning to check out as well. It’s sad to think the spin off mini series titles are better Batman stories than the main title.
Finished reading Armorclads #1 ….
Story: 5/10
The story was a so-so setup for the beginning of a story arc. Individuals forced to work for the greater community, and mine a mineral used to sustain life for many. The planet is hostile with enemies (both creature and human), but our Armorclads step up and win when required. The story has a feel of MSFT’s Halo + alittle of Aliens + some ole’ Sci-Fi drama. Potential exists but need a step up with the story progression.
Artwork: 6/10
For a sci-fi comicbook, the artwork matched the story. Again - a very Halo-ish feel to the comic - especially with the artwork. I liked the art in general, as it depicting the mood for the story. The coloring was a darker mix to set the mood of the story. A pastel-ish feel in some sense, but again fits the mood. The inking again accentuates the feel of the artwork. Solid. Room to grow with the artwork.
Character Growth: 5/10
There is not a lot of background on characters, and the story kinda jumps into a typical day on this planet. You meet a few main characters, but not much in terms of background, who they are, why we are here on this particular day, and where we are going in the story with these characters. Nobody I got attached to off the bat.
Conclusion:
I’ll give it another 2-3 issues and see where it goes.
Flash Point Beyond #0
So - I went into this expecting a lackluster story, but came out pleasantly surprised and eager for issue #1.
The character twist for Batman was unexpected, and actually made me re-think a number of storylines with the ‘What If’ mantra riding the wave. They can take this storyline a number of directions, but what has peaked my curiosity is how trying to fix the space-time continuum of one reality - affects another already changed for our hero Batman and Flash.
The characterization of Batman in Flash Point Beyond opens the door for alternate stories to mix and match Batman’s hardest enemies - with lurking twists that only a cool margarita can quench on a hot summer day.
The progression of the story coupled with the comic art matched the overall feel of the book. Batman is naturally dark and full of depth. Artwork must always reflect that piece of Batman.
The artwork stitched the story together nicely. The inking weighted just enough to set the Batman-esque moodiness and feel to it. The coloring was darker tones, with vibrant pastels you would only see on a dark and story night.
Definitely one where I stick around for the next issue.
Story: 7/10
Art: 7/10
I liked the issue too.
Who’s the little kid with the beaver hat at the end?
Trying to burn through some classic trades. Just finished Batman: The Long Halloween. Pretty solid story. I like the format of holidays matching up with classic Batman villains.
Is Dark Victory a worthwhile read as a sequel?
Yes, but I’m biased.
I assumed he had something to do with the time travelers?
Batman/Superman: World’s Finest is a seriously fun read.
I know I’m biased as the DC guy, but so far these two issues are really good and have me hooked.
I’ve only read the first issue so far. It was a delight! Dan Mora’s art And the team up near the end was fuuuun.
Just read 8 Billion Genies… it was great! It’s gonna be fun to read I think.
I know I’m late to the party, but I had started the second series of We Live, and it was ok…but I just read the FCBD issue from last year and it was wonderful! About to move on to the second issue of volume 2
I loved We Live’s first run. Loved it. I have a bazillion of those books. FCBD was good, too.
Now, Age of Palladions… Two issues in, and I don’t have a clue about what’s going on. Feels really messy and directionless. Not a good start, IMO.
