I’m a corporate schmoe during the day, and play in a cover band on weekends. So, I travel a lot on weekends. And, that means I listen to a lot of audio books. If you need a new one, I’m completely enamored with Joe Hill’s novels. He’s Stephen King’s son (he really named his son Joe King), but damn he’s good.
King Sorrow is a fantastic, sprawling 30-year epic about summoning evil and what it does to lives.
Horns is also really great. Violent, and at times some pretty heavy content. But, it’s also a wonderful love story. Daniel Radcliff starred in the movie version (I haven’t seen that yet).
I never thought about his pen name beyond not wanting to look like a nepo baby, but it didn’t even occur to me that he grew up “Joe King.” I wonder how many times someone has come up to him and said some variation of, “You must be Joe King.”
I remember he said in an interview or something he started going by the pen name because he once wrote a really crappy story and it was featured in a high school literature compilation with an emphasizing how he was the son of famous author Stephen King. He figured if he had any chance of making it on his own merit he needed to at least hide it at first.
Another “did you know”.
King’s other son named Owen was a huge GI Joe fan.
Stephen King was able to pull strings or Hasbro respected him enough to name a Joe after him.
I don’t know if the typing will show but “Sneak Peeks” real name is Owen King. (From Bangor Maine )
Pretty cool.
The day after I finished King Sorrow, I discovered the Locke & Key series popularity. Those first print issues seem to all have some value. I stopped at a garage sale that had some comics. Found this for $5. Not a valuable trade, but I wanted to read it.
@Joe
NOS4A2 also another good one. One of my favorite books actually. The comic series was fun with good covers.
They absolutely butchered the show though. Uggg…so bad.
