I don’t make a point to seek these out, so I had no idea if I had one in my collection.
So I went through about 2-300 newsstands I have from the 70s, 80s and 90s. And wouldn’t you know when I had about 5 or so books remaining I was just about to give up hope finding one…
Good ‘ol Ghost Rider 75. Can’t wait until Steel Wind returns to her Marvel Universe glory and I can retire on the sale of this book.
I ain’t touching a cgc mark jewelers with a ten foot pole
Mark Jewelers are another example of something you would think a large percentage of comic collectors would know about/search for (looking for the star stamp too), but it isn’t the case.
Gratz on the find!
It’s just another thing to slow down my already cumbersome process to look at every book…
I looked on eBay at mark jewelers to see how often this star appears….it seems like a rarity…at least for more modern books (e.g., 80s).
So probably something to keep in mind if you happens to see it…but may not be worth slowing down to examine every book…it does help if it’s placed in the upper left corner….which I would think would have been the common practice.
I have seen the star on the bottom of the back cover before as well, but it is the same star, I also have a few that have no star at all. The one tidbit that he says that narrows down the search immensely is that all MJ’s are newsstands.
You can also see the insert in the center of the comic from the top when you’re flipping through.
Star is not all that easy to pick out either with fading and placement. They are typically in the same area from my experience.
Finding them on DC or less popular books (given these were being stocked on military bases, limited room etc.) is even more of a challenge.
This is one of mine that is considered pretty darn rare & even more so in beautiful condition.
