Can we stop with these car metaphors? I barely understand how my car works, let alone what makes the innards original or restored or such. I’m just lost.

You don’t want to argue but then you keep trying to stir the pot by calling me out… Pretty childish if you ask me.

This is why we started this site and forums, to educate those who blindly follow shitty companies. You’re right, they don’t listen to us but if we address these types of concerns enough, hopefully it changes the way some think when it comes to buying books, collectibles, etc.

Grading companies are not the tell all authority of the comic collecting industry with what they put on labels (the top one can’t even grade comics consistently), so pushing back and educating people only makes the community more aware and helps them when making decisions on purchases, etc.

The parts are original but piecing them back together to bring back to “original” or almost “original” condition is what the definition of restoration entails… FFS… :man_facepalming:

And besides, if one is adding a cover to a comic book it wasn’t originally on, I doubt one is using the same original staples to hold that comic together, they’re gonna use new ones especially on a comic that is so old, where the metal is so brittle, probably beaks just to bend to get them off. So… RESTORED!!!

Unless you got someone out there claiming they got some original Action Comics #1 staples they’re selling as original staples… haha…

People sell original age staples. Believe it or not every part is for sale.

A married cover can still be detached. I think what happens is staples are added as reinforcement. Which grading companies consider conservation as long as you are not replacing the original staples with non-original staples.

I’m not arguing. You’re arguing.

I think the problem is that all restoration gets lumped together and is overall viewed negatively in the comics world. Whereas in other areas such as automobiles, bikes, motorcycles, even art in some cases restoration can be viewed as good or bad depending on the quality of the restoration.

Someone can draw all over a cover in pen and ink, and the grade is 3.0. Yet one small tip of a marker to hide a fleck of white color loss and it’s the purple label of death…and can sells for much less than the 3.0.

Best one I saw was ASM 51. Someone drew a toupee on Kingpin with a blue ballpoint pen. I kind of wish I bought it.

BLUE Action Comic No.1 Superman Rare D.C. Comics Manufacturing Error Reprint | eBay

Not a sale, but quite a joke…good for a laugh.

Let your comic sit in a the sun for a bit, and then try to sell it for $1,000,000 as a rare error edition. Oh, and there’s a certificate of authentication! L@@K!!!

Only topped by bad grammar and misspellings in the listing…at least they tried, and didn’t use AI…although maybe A.I. told them “Dude, even I’m not going to touch this book…you’re on your own.”

But the sellers name is rare collectibles which mean he knows when something is rare.

Some seller names crack me up with unintentional irony.

This book does not come around often in 9.8. Still, I thought this was much too high of an asking price. So I am a bit taken back.

I picked up a CBCS 9.8 a while back for $150.

I’m always looking for this book in high grade. I don’t think I’ve seen a newsstand 9.8.

Crack it. Resubmit to cgc and make some money

It’s a PC boom. At least until I get a 9.6 or better newsstand. I have a raw news, but it’s like a 9.4.

Plus CGC would damage it.
