Ha that’s the truth
It sucks because reader spec is the best, but it’s far and few between. Spider-boy has a little. Immortal hulk is the perfect example. I think Jim sometimes generates some reader spec
I read the series My complaint wasn’t the story. it was the art. I hated the shifting back and forth between styles.
Yeah, Im gonna hate-watch this.
JIm: “Sure seems like Marvel has a liking to that character (Titan)…”
WTF ??? NO, Marvel doesnt. Why do you pull shit out of your ass, Jim ???
I have all three of those books shown…in newsstand too!
Same…Only one is a newsstand though and that’s the Fantastic Four. Got the G.I. Joe #1 and Transformers #1 shortly after I started collecting, probably summer-ish 1986. GI Joe comics were expensive back then especially if you add modern inflation! Most of them in from #10 to #20 were around $20 to $25 in NM! That would be around $65 to $70 today!
Just realized the TF is a Canadian price variant. So I don’t have that.
Ha, he said the pages do not appear in issue 1, making the annual the true first appearance.
I’m confused by old books being new comic day picks? Or does he do both?
This is what he does very often. He’ll bring up old books from his collection that are now somewhat relevant due to the current news or storyline. In this case it’s GIJoe and Transformers that’s making the rounds. He somehows always have the relevant issues. The books will often times spike because he has a loyal following. It’s why we have to watch his vids.
I’ve watched one and didn’t have any issues with him. I don’t know why everyone complains about him.
I think it’s the nature of the industry and how often times a bunch of inscrupulous influencers aka “pumpers” have given other youtubers a bad rep. Think of the Whatnot youtuber scandal how they were buying up all these whatnot exclusives and pumping it live on their show at the con floor at inflated prices while regular folks couldn’t buy these exclusives. I think that fiasco really did a lot of damage to how these influencers were viewed. Prior to this they were seen as rock stars for comic book nerds.
Jim kind of unfairly got lumped into that because his picks often spikes because of his following. People in this forum are way more skeptical than most because we know “how the game is played”, as we seen it happen all so often. Books will spike because some influencer mentions it, causing FOMO and then it disappears into the ether a few weeks later.
It also doesn’t help that he gets primped up by KCC, who often uses his specs as alerts. The thing is KCC is such a bad ambassador for the industry. I remembered there was one week KCC had a Previewsworld catalog (issue 408) on their trending 20 hot list because it had a preview of a new Bad Idea tiltle. Only problem was it only had 2 sales that week at $25, how did a catalog that only had 2 sales at $25 make it onto a hot list? Suspious at best, manipulating the industry at worst.
I like Jim. No need to paint everybody with a broad brush because there are unscrupulous influencers out there. He seems quite genuine to me.
I like Jim too, he comes across as genuine. I found him at the same time I found ComicTom during the pandemic. Got sick of Comictom real quick. He was all over my youtube timeline when I was at home looking for news on comics during the pandemic, wondering how covid would affect the industry.
Right after clicked “do not recommend” on Comictom’s video, youtube never put anything related to Comictom on my timeline again. It’s like he fell off the face of the earth. Nothing against comictom but he came across to me as a sleazy used car salesman trying to pump FOMO into me.
Jimcomics I still kept my subscription. Just comes off more genuine.
Agreed on all points…
Truer words have never been spoken.
If you’re buying stuff he’s talking about, you overpaid
I made this same comment on the main site about the Covrprice list. Someone had commented that I am basically telling people to buy all the books on the list. I said no, absolutely not, that running the list only shows what is hot and selling from the week prior and to me it’s a time to sell list and not a time to buy. If you are buying something because it appears in a video or lost it is already too late.
Very true. When I check any top list out there that gets traffic and see a book I have a few of, on to Ebay they go, unless I feel they are better for long term holds.
There is a lot of paranoia in this hobby. Not everyone is out to get you. Jim doesn’t seem to want anything from anyone. He likes talking about comics, and maybe that makes him a few bucks to buy more comics. Good for him. This constant fear of “pumping up books” is the worst part of this hobby (ok, maybe Marvel’s overall product is worse ). People talking about comics is great for this hobby. We need more of it, not less if this hobby is going to last much longer. I’d argue the haters do far more damage than YouTubers.
My two cents.
