Las Vegas comic shops?

I’m in Las Vegas for a few days. Any recommendations for shops to check out? Ideally, I’m after places with some good back issue boxes to hunt for deals.

MaximuM Comics on Fort Apache and Tropicana OR W Azure are the best shops in town, imo. I personally visit the Fort Apache store. They treat their customers like gold and have a decent back issue section as well as LOTS of sets! You may mind hidden gems in the back issue bins, but I wouldn’t expect you to find Tec 880 floating around or anything like that. They have a good selection of action figures, Funko, statues, etc and they price match Amazon.

I’ve never been to the shop but Torpedo Comics is owned by John Dolmayan the drummer from System of a Down. That’s enough for me to visit if I’m ever out there. I hear he also has a drum set drawn by Jim Lee. We discussed it a bit in one of the threads.

Not a local, but opinions on the stores I’ve gone to multiple times:

  • Torpedo is worth a visit if you have a car, if for no other reason than to gawk at the crazy expensive books and art on display. The store is aimed at high end collectors. Everything is bagged, boarded and clean, including new releases. Back issues are well organized.

  • Maximum is more aimed at readers and BatmanFan gave a good summary above. Friendly folks.

  • Alternate Reality Comics is great. The owner, Ralph, is super cool and I have found many under-priced gems in his back issues. This is also the spot for J.H. Williams III signed books. Lots of original artwork to enjoy here, too.

I’ve seen the Torpedo comics guy on Pawn Stars. When they’ve been to his shop it looks really cool. I can picture it being pricey tho.

I live in Vegas and Torpedo is pretty cool - the have a “vault” you can walk into with some high dollar books. As mentioned, great place to check out, but unless you are in the market for high dollar books, or they have something you can’t find on eBay, you probably won’t end up buying anything. Still a cool place.

Maximum is my LCS, but I shop mostly online. It has a decent selection of TPB and moderns. Like a smaller version of TFAW.

Alternate Reality is like your old school comic shop, and is closest to the strip, if that is where you are staying.

Stunt Dog is probably 10-15 minutes from the strip. I follow them on IG and they seem to have a mix of old and new.

The https://www.amazingcomiccon.com/ at the end of April is by far our biggest comic event in the city. They are just now starting to announce guests.

I’m afraid that with so few good options, most back issue bins have been pretty thoroughly searched for treasure. But if you are a reader/completionist, they all have some.

Been waiting for Dolymayan to start his grading company he was considering.
Nothing would make me happier to drop Bozo in Sarasota & Emmet Kelly in Texas

Thanks for the recs. I stopped at Alternate Reality. Nice place with a very unique way of laying out books. Some old stuff on shelves with new books. Lots of newer indies in the 50 cent boxes. I wish I had more time there.
