Mark Spears Covers

So did Mark actually draw these or are they just colorized still photos?

They’re coming to get you, Barbara

He traced those ???

Does Mark put out any videos on his art process? If not, that’s a red flag if no one ever sees him actually produce or create any of the artwork he produces!

I think there was a video out showing how he stages 3d models with lighting to get composition and shadows and then does coloring afterward. Not sure where I saw that. Maybe his instagram?

I thought I’d seen a video too, but I found this post from a while back that shows a nice progression:

I wanna see it live… I could do a progression with AI nowadays… haha!

colorize b&w photos ?

He’s got 75 covers for Halloween. And 75 for X-mas. How does one crank out 150 covers that quickly? I would guess there is some serious automation going on here. Hopefully it’s not AI.

It’s not technically 75 covers… ~30 unique pieces of art that can come in foil or cardstock. It’s still a lot though…

It’s just a model he makes in Blender and then takes different shots of.

This bubble will burst.

Ugh! I literally want none of those.

Bill might be right quicker than I thought

I live NOTLD but have no idea why these have been included.

As for the bubble, I have made a ton of money off his books. Kept the ones I loved. It’s win win if it pops. I love his stuff. To me it’s not overly creepy. Has fun campiness to it. Matches my aesthetic of wanting to live in a world that looks like Scooby doo cartoon mixed with the Munsters

He painted over the photos for his 2022 card set. Like someone else said before; he is reusing a lot of his art that he used for his cards. That’s how he is pumping out so many covers.

Mark Spears stuff might be a bubble but for now the train keeps on rolling. I’m mixing my metaphors. Sorry.

Unless you’re getting exclusives at cons or these high ratios, where is the money to be made off these books anymore?

I’d rather flip Dan Mora books for 1000% profit.

A CGC 9.8 of Monsters #1 cover A sold for a little over $1K recently. The bubble may burst (and probably will), but I honestly think that issues #1-3 and the Kickstarters (Monsters and M&tW) will remain high on people’s want lists.

I have 3 raw, high grade copies of #1 cover A bought at cover price so I’m good.

So, in a 9.8 the A cover sells for more than the book that started the frenzy. The market is interesting.

Bet there’s a nice color breaking crease along the middle of the spine too. $1000 for what likely would not grade higher than a 9.6 if regraded.
