Totally reasonable ask. I price things on Mercari higher than on eBay because of the coupons and credits they give out. So this guy saying he can find it on eBay cheaper is totally a normal request.
Then silence.

So he decided he wanted to get this book instead. But is only willing to pay $7 shipped.

He comes back
$10 shipped.
You see I just went ahead and blocked him instead of dealing with him further.

I assume you use only Mercari shipping, as itâs guaranteed (you donât pay for returns or losses/damage)?
If so, how would you even make $7 shipped work (as Mercari is $6.99)? Accept a best offer of a penny?
BTW, I change the weight to 12 oz, so shipping is $6.39âŠas I donât get anything more of they pay $6.99 or $6.39âŠ.might as well help the buyer save 60 cents.

Guy really is an idiot. I explained all that to him and he still wanted the book for $10 shipped. Which after Mercari fees of 13% is $8.70 minus cost of $4.99 is $3.71. Minus Gemini is $2.71 minus bag and board is $2.48. Then shipping of $6.99 is -$4.51 And letâs ignore the fact the book sells for $14.99 plus shipping regularly.
Forgot sales tax of .24 cents making it -$4.75
Would be more cost effective to burn the book.

This has happened to me so many times. Someone puts an offer on a book and then blocks me. Makes no sense. I canât send him a message and ask whatâs up because I am blocked.
Probably changed their mind after sending their offer. This is likely the only way to âvoid an offerâ.
Could reach out and say it. Like hey I made this offer but I changed my mind. Itâs funny because the screenshot comes from me declining the offer. I canât decline it.

Sold later for full asking. And then another after that.
wtf is this? Sold a book. It was delivered. Now Mercari isnât paying me.
600 plus completed sales on Mercari and never had this issue.
Called Mercari. They hung up on me. I messaged the buyer telling them they need to rate me since Mercari wonât release the funds. At this point three days showed they had no intention of rating.
They ended up rating after some back and forth. I left a one star review and blocked them.

How do you block someone on Mecari when you know the user profile?
Easier to do on eBay, but on Mecari I think you need to find something they are selling or have sold them.

Would have responded âbubble wrap applies uneven pressure on the book, increasing the probability of creating spine ticks and other cover damage during shipping. And if you feel you need to rely on a âdo not bendâ sticker to protect a package during transit. then you havenât packaged your item well enough.â

Icing on the cake is that I sold them a comic for like four bucks that was already advertised as damaged so they were aware that it was rough.
