Its dumb to me, but im glad you are making bank on them.
I’m indifferent on newsstands. If I i find them cheap cool, I have a few witchblade and tomb raider newsstands and Spider-Man 1 McFarlane in newsstand. Not super pricy books but cool
I don’t seek them out on newer moderns but I do like finding them for the middle to late 80s. I think it’s the thrill of the hunt for a 9.4+ copy of a newsstand that somehow stood the test of the 'ol spinner rack or the kids manhandling them at the periodicals section of the store makes it thrilling when you get one in really great condition as most didn’t survive…
I guess it’s just more exciting than the direct editions that got shipped directly to a shop and went straight to a bag and board, getting almost immediate protection and treated like a collectible rather than as a periodical at the gas station, Eckerds or wherever you bought your comics as a kid.
I had a chance to buy a 9.6 Batman Beyond #1 newsstand a few years back for the same price as a direct…which was about $200 at the time…
Doh.
But the pendulum swings two ways…I did grab an ASM 238 newsstand white pages for the same price as a direct about the same time frame…$250 I think I paid…
I made a habit of picking up 9.6 newsstands the past few years…there was definitely a price difference newsstand vs direct in 9.8s, but 9.6s were not only a small fraction of the price but everyone chasing newsstands seem to be only chasing only 9.8s…
Now that 9.8 newsstands are going stratosphere, 9.6s are starting to distance themselves from directs as well.
Adam Legend of Blue Marvel really seems to have reached some impressive prices. It was pricey but seems to have leapt again!
As I’ve said in other topics, I’m hoping he cameos on, “Wandavision,” so the set I got goes nuclear. If not, I can grade the first issue as it is gorgeous and still make a profit.
He’s not the engineer as it was some unrelated character that was introduced in the last episode. It’s a good book to have and has been hot for years with no movies, series or anything to really justify it.
I sold a raw this summer for $750. Bought some stocks instead.
I just hope he cameos in some way, even if not the engineer. He and Monica know each other in the comics.
Those books may dip a bit but there always going to be sought after. It’s only a matter of time before he’s a part of he MCU.
Young Avengers Vol. 2 #1 2nd Print is seeing an uptick in prices. I think it’s a combination of it being her first cover appearance and a 2nd Print. She does appear on the regular cover and Variant so it’s a bit strange.
Not sure if it’s the first appearances, a low print last issue or all of the above but What if #114 is heating up.
I try and mention when I add a book to this thread if I have copies for sale. Just to be transparent and not be accused of pumping for my benefit. I do have a House of Mystery 1 for sale. I listed it after learning it was trending.
People are actually spec’ing on the Avengers from Earth-9811 ???
LMAO
How do you detect that these random issues are heating up? Do you read about it on Twitter, etc? I mean, this (What if) is such an obscure thing, that I can’t fathom how someone would know it is heating up.
I give you credit for having such knowledge of the obscure. It’s very helpful.
Young avengers was on last weeks or week before top 10 spec videos and sought after books for possible mcu stuff.
I find some because I’m specifically watching those issues or characters. Some I hear about at other forums such as CGC. Most of it is keeping up with all things comic related. A fair amount comes from people listing or talking about completed sales. Which is part of the reason why I list my purchases and sales in my pickup and sales thread.
I have never used CGC forums. Thanks for the idea. I will also do the pickup/sale thread. I don’t buy specific issues per se. I just buy “price anomalies” which is strategy that requires a lot of work and frantic price checking. For example, lately I have been buying mostly silver and Bronze Age
