It’s all about supply and demand, and the info available. Knowing beforehand dramatically affects supply. No one gets caught unaware. Minimal FOMO at time of release.
A movie/TV show appearance changes that equation. That dramatically affects demand.
The biggest price pops happen when there’s a supply/demand mismatch.
Which comes to the point of, this is likely more organic demand. When it’s people like speculators that are in the know speculating on a new first appearance, loading up on copies, it’s them driving up the price amongst other speculators. To me, this is not organic demand. It’s why we see the quick rise and fast fall of value around release time for most firsts…
I looked at all online shops that offer pre-orders and it was pretty much sold out or asking $10. Midtown limits 1 per order cover A (1:10 is open…but had only 3 copies left).
I think retailers are holding back, or people were shy on 88 expecting an 87 cameo.
So show your cards where you’re seeing many copies for sale!
I see Westfield is open…but we all know what they do to orders after FOC (DV #20
Sprouse anyone?)

Shops will have plenty. M Just saying online is getting scarce from what I’ve seen.
There are also online shops that will have them starting Wednesday too, but they will be 1 per as well by habit.
I don’t see this being marked up on Wednesday or selling over cover on eBay. This is longer term spec IMO regardless. If you see a 9.8 out there should grab it.
I still like Graham Crackers. But they cancelled Strange Academy 15 and they just cancelled my Thor21 too. No explanation on Thor but I assume it’s going to be shortages like they told me on SA15
Not trying to cause FOMO but I don’t believe we can reliably count on stores having it in stock on the day of release anymore. Seems like a whole new world from what I have seen from the shops in my area, and I live in a very huge metropolitan city with 7 to 10 shops all within a reasonable distance. Your area could be different and everyone’s mileage will vary. To me, online shops selling out is an indication that shops are going to be cleaned out before release day, or if they even decide to put them out at all.
I feel the first week prices will spike as always and slowly come down as they always do when more supply hits the market. But I agree with you this is a long term spec. I hate the design anyways, have zero interest in this.
At least you got comic shops, I’ve been buying 100% online for almost a decade. We had a LCS for about year out of that decade but I would go maybe once ever 3 months when something real hot would come out like Thanos #13 and Teen Titans #12.
