Modern Comics Heating Up (Those With Potential Too) (Part 1)

Anyone else noticing the prices on the Marvel facsimile reprints from a couple of years ago? Going through eBay:

AF #15 - $30
IH #181 - $20
NM #98 - $15
WWBN #32 - $20
ASM #101 - $20

And so forth.

True Believer reprints do pretty well too along with facsimiles.

Actually, I thought about this after I posted “Thanks Jim” and I really should say thanks @drunkwooky for the obvious impeccable insight and wiki and thanks to @faele for providing a shiiit ton of books at cover still all these months!

Jim was just the random spark that lit the fuel provided by this forum.

No problem.

There’s a fire among comic collectors for Star Wars, in particular High Republic the past couple weeks. I’ve been producing the WookyWiki database from a long time before the heat and I’ll keep running it long after everybody leaves the party.

I have to go with the thanks @drunkwooky as well since he has been cranking out tons of info with barely a thanks.

Time to go to the vault turn the faucet to a trickle. No need to flood the market.

Shucks. You didn’t have to go THAT far.

Very true. Thats why only one of mine went up, lol. One at a time. I’m sure they will start cutting down, but they will rise once again in October once it settles in the next week or so.

This Jim guy sure knows how to create some hype. In general, what is the approach to selling at a time like this? If I have (for example) 10 copies of some of these HR books that just spiked. Is it good to sell a few? Or is there more of a long term hold? Thank you. Star Wars spec is not my wheel house.

Sell at the price you want. Could be in a day, month, year, etc.

Agree. 100%

I have a lot of these books and I view some as long holds. With that said, some of these books have hit a threshold for where I decided I’d start to trickle them out into the market.

To paraphrase Ivan Drago,

“If they sell they sell”

Right now this is speccers selling to other speccers who have missed out on grabbing the issues when they came out.

The hype is coming about because somebody with a large audience made people aware of facts that have been around for almost a year. We all knew Marchion Ro made a cameo in SW HRA 1 then a full appearance in SW HRA 2.

What would really move the needle is something big happening with Marchion Ro in mainstream media formats.

There’s a chance that may never happen, but he’s a likely candidate seeing as he’s the biggest bad so far in the era.

So, if these prices are sufficient for your return, sell now to other speccers.

If you want to risk it and wait longer, I think you could make a good deal more when non-comic collecting types become savvy to this.

As a side note: a lot of different actors are starting to maneuver on Marchion Ro. Mike Mayhew, who had the first cover (tied with Sliney) announced he “found some stock” of trade dress High Republic 3s (first Marchion cover). He is now selling them for $50 on his site. Originally, they were $20. I honestly think what he did was buy back stock from his partner stores (Black Flag, Mutant Beaver, etc.) and centralize selling them from his storefront.

I’m sitting tight personally.

Significant upside exists. Star Wars is Disney’s flagship IP. The first phase of HR turned out way better than I expected. They have done a great job so far.

They have about a 10-year plan for this era. There are over 100,000,000 Star Wars fans out there and 99.5% of them haven’t even heard of the High Republic yet.

Very true. Of the books that are hot now, I think Ro is the one with the most upside and lots of room left to grow
