The problem too is that the paper for this book is absolute garbage. I went to 4 different shops today to see what wall books they had and I picked up a few of these. You can tell there is some spine stress on all of the books.
Any marvel book is at risk when they are shelved. But, Spider punk 1 paper was some of the worst I’ve seen
Totally agreed on the Spider Punk #1 and Maestro World War M that had come out that same week. It was like they used toilet paper to print those books that week.
The two copies I grabbed were 9.8 contenders. But it’s a very black back cover so expect lots of copies with color rub over
The next few months.
Use mylar, especially with black and that won’t happen
Mylar backing boards?
I’ve used e-gerber full backs with mylites and it still happens.
I alternate front and back and only use short boxes. It works for me to avoid color rub. Also not packed too tight. It helps with spine roll as well
I just double bag. Comic in a current bag, inserted into a silver age bag with a board.
Only 100% guarantee for moderns.
Copper/Bronze/older books I use the egerber products.
Agreed on the paper quality for this book. It’s so wavy and crazy thin. Also, for what it’s worth, I went to three shops this week, and all three had a stack of these. Don’t get me wrong, if you can flip a few copies for a few extra bucks, heck yes. But, I’m not seeing much demand at my shops.
I did find a stack of 10 Hell to Pay 1 issues. Temped to grab a few. Although, I wasn’t super impressed with the story TBH.
This HAPPENED WITH MY DV#2, 1st Doctor Aphra, I was OMFG. It was a total 9.8 Contender, until this happened. Going forward we just called the MARVEL RUB (2020). Should start thread advising how we deal with subpar paper quality.
“The Marvel Rub”. Back in the 60’s it was Marvel chipping. Marvel sure dislikes quality paper for some reason.
Wait, you bought the book without knowing why people are buying the book …???
Smells fishy…
Nothing fishy here at the time of my post I was wondering if Dream Spider was announced for the Miles movie.
The second print slipped by me, didn’t even know it was out. Were we talking about it in the forums at that time? I don’t remember us talking about it and this is the only place I visit
It was talked about…
Raw copies are about the same price. The 1st print ratio is really best
Would turning it backwards prevent color rub on a black back cvr while not hurting a non-black front cvr?
Damn I really missed the boat on that 2nd print. This must’ve been really early on when I first joined CHU and wasn’t such a grizzly seasoned speculator yet. Had I seen that cover I would’ve ordered the hell out of that 2nd print.
For some reason I have a lot of the first print and have sold quite a few but none of the 2nd print. I still think this Tiger Division has legs. I was also late to the party how incredibly huge Kpop is around the world. It’s not my thing but I have seen it crept into my other interests non related to comics, like Sports and when I was trying to learn Spanish a few years back. These Kpop artists were moving the market including getting their sheeps to vote players in for the nba all star game . I can’t escape this kpop phenomenon anywhere I go.
I guess I’m not surprised that marvel is late to the party and hasn’t really capitalized on the kpop phenomenon. I would be paying more attention to some of these new asian characters.
The rub will happen either way. Just more noticeable the darker the ink. It’s not like they use different printers or paper quality front and back.
Although I admit I’ve never put it to the test. Just assumed since I haven’t had an issue with any comics since I switched to double bagging. And now I do this with all modern comics, including card stock. Been finding “scratches”’or scuffing. Slick “plastic” is much more forgiving.
Would not recommend this for comics whose interiors are printed out n newspaper, as I’m not sure how double bagging may effect breakdown of the fragile paper. I assume it accelerates it due to trapping in the off gasses more.
