Modern Comics Heating Up (Those With Potential Too) (Part 1)

I think I have 2 of the 1:25 2nd prints somewhere… unless I sold them already.

So, please tell me why the Giang variant for MV Spider-verse is being priced above the other covers ?

And dont say it’s cause he’s a good artist. He’s not. All his art looks like 90’s holofoil/chrome.

This particular cover looks really cool

I dont like Giangs art because it looks like he puts on an onbonxious filter on all of his work making the art really hard to see

Much rather have the Inhyuk with both new characters on the cover than the Giang with one.

Giang is awesome indeed. He draws Storm Shadow better than anyone else I’ve ever seen.

The Giang cover looks good but after reading the CHU spoilers (thank you Anthony!), I’m not buying to read. No copies for me.

Once a comic has an ASM 300 homage AND a SM 1 homage, I’m out. No 1st or 2nd print copies of SM 7 for me.

I’m buying Spider-Men comics with Peter and Miles. That’s my bag baby (Austin Powers)!

Does seem like every character that went on to use the ASM 300 homage has kind of died off and all spec is lost… But bravo to the publishers for creating a craze amongst collectors/speculators on a character that has yet to prove itself worthy in the Marvel Universe by bypassing actual organic growth…

It’s not really about story telling any longer with characters being introduced… they just throw out as many firsts as they can to see what takes off to make that extra cash.

Why? Cause homages take attention away from the other cvrs?

Yeah, Dan Slott went full Donny Cates before SM #7 was released. You never go full Donny Cates :joy:

On a less facetious note, it was a brilliant move. When publishers can make more money on a 2nd print, than a 1st = well played! When a 2nd print has a (potentially) higher print run than the 1st = VERY well played. Make even MORE money with a ratio variant and a sh*t ton of exclusives on a 2nd print = next level genius!

I dont blame the publishers for any of this. If there werent a bunch of dumb buyers we wouldnt have all of this bs 1:25 2nd print and store exclusive 2nd print variants. There should be no market for such shenanigans.

The 1st print is the way to go on this. Anyone buying any of these 2nd prints is a fool.

No sir. Over printing and long term growth is depleted (not eliminated, depleted). IMO

Exclusives have the potential to detract from the regular covers, which in turn, decreases the chance for organic growth. We all know that there is NOTHING organic about Spider-Man #7. It was hyped by Dan Slott, the actual in-comic appearance of Spider-Boy makes him seem like a self-centered brat, speculator to speculator online sales, 2nd print exclusives.

I hope that Spider-Boy becomes a worthwhile member to the Spider-Verse. IMO, it looks like there is more potential for a dumpster fire than long term success. I hope I’m wrong.

Problem is Marvel is creating more spiders than DC is creating Bat characters. I like Spider-Boy but Spider-Friend? Come on. It’s too much. They are really throwing everything at the wall and hoping something sticks.

I think thats fine, we dont have to buy everything.

Can’t blame the publishers for marketing a product they sell for a much lower initial cover price cost (they’re cut is likely only 25% of the cover price) whatsoever… the more inventory they move to sell, the more they make. It’s quantity…

Everybody know that

It is always about money. If great stories drove sales more than firsts then you’d see more of an effort and less gimmicks.

Don’t blame the publishers when they’re Just giving the consumers what they want.
