Apparently theres a free previews issue featuring the cover of ultimate spider-man 1, wonder if people will try and push it as the spec book lol

There’s been some sales on eBay

I have two copies so I just might. lol.

Maybe pair them up with the actual comic as an incentive…charge a little more.

A decent story with No first appearances will stay hot as long as y’all keep talking about it. A month or two max and no one will be talking about it.

Immortal Hulk disagrees, very few first appearances and just kept picking up steam.

I mean, its Golden Apple. They shouldn’t be on anyone’s list of places to buy from…

Id rather buy comics from Larry Doherty before Golden Apple…and thats saying something

For this, I give 100 of these :100:

Never thought I’d say I hope an entity goes out of business and the extreme contempt I have for them, but Golden Apple is #1 on the list of contempt and seriously hoping they fold forever.

Ha, I doubt anything we say here will make another CHU member go out on ebay and buy Ultimate Spiderman 1 for $50-$60. What I think is happening is that besides the usual spec youtubers that are talking about it, it’s on social media and other non spec youtube channels that talks about comics. Prior to joining Chu I was watching a lot of these comic youtube channels that just reviews comics and listening to comic book podcasts and reading message boards. There’s a whole other world out there that are talking about comics than just the handful of the spec sites and keycollector that we talk about. My guess is that it’s getting positive reviews everywhere and causing FOMO.

One thing I do fund really fascinating about this Ultimate Spiderman book is the way it sort of parallels the original Ultimate Spiderman.

Do those of you who were collecting at the time remember the launch. It really was a book that caught everyone by surprise. Just another #1 issue & boring ole Spidey (again) back then. I recall being a member of the N.I.C.E subscription service via Mile High during that time. Honestly, they did a good job with it. I called and asked for 2 copies to my pull simply because it looked interesting.
That book was absolutely red hot back then. I remember selling a raw copy for $150 which was a big deal back then.
When I saw the solicitation for this new one I immediately recalled that. Did anyone else preorder a copy just in the hopes lightning would strike twice?

I don’t know how to see print runs back then… Anyone know? That books still does very well all in all given the print runs back then. 2000 I believe?

I hear you. A little over ten years ago when I lived close to LA they had a non comic item I wanted at good price so I called and had them hold it for me. I went down to buy it when it was supposed to be opened but it wasn’t. I called no answer. Later that afternoon I called and got the guy. He said something came up and his mom was supposed to open the store but forgot. Something along those lines. I was like, thanks for wasting my day not that he cared one bit. Stay away from Golden Apple is all I can tell anyone interested in maybe buying from them. I stopped buying even online years ago when they decided to play the Ebay spec price game. Better optionsout there.

Yes. This is unlikely to be a one issue phenomenon. Immortal Hulk and Naomi are probably the best recent analogues. The excitement and hype went 3-6 months, and even then, persisted to some degree for a while after that.

Thank you! Very interesting. I know that was a bit of the “Dark times” but that was pretty low for a Spidey #1 all things considered.
