Modern Comics Heating Up (Those With Potential Too) (Part 1)

As someone who doesn’t have a stack of grail-level books filling up my house, I have zero problem with spec sites/videos/apps driving energy and value into random books and the hobby in general, even if it is sometimes misguided. I don’t mind selling $3 books for $50.

I don’t either but I also like good spec, not the snake oil salesmen con tactics that some of these spec sites will do, creating fomo and the weak minded people who go and actually spend $50 on a book that’s honestly still only worth $3.

Do I feel bad for people who fall for such things though? Absolutely not. These types need to learn self control and educate themselves as well. If you buy something just because a random site says it’s “hot” with no other factual evidence, then you deserve to lose your money.

Sounds like most people in the CBSI facebook group.

Pump dollar bin dreck and draw in the suckers.

I prefer books that “actually” have substance and continue to grow.

Yup! :100:

For sure. I’m not for someone blatantly pushing a worthless book because they have an abundance of it that they’d like to move. But, guessing on a book that doesn’t pan out? I don’t mind that. Hell, how much of that did we all do here during WandaVision?

I didn’t… I’ve only watched the first two episodes and have yet to find time to go back and watch the rest.

I didnt spec at all on Wandavision or Falcon & Winter Soldier when they came out. I was well ahead of those specs a few years ago. I prefer surefire specs than a shot in the dark, short term pumps.

The problem that I see with the pump & dump fake spec antics is eventually people will stop buying things. Which will lead to a demand & supply economic principle where values will drop a cross the board. Less people collecting & investing is not good in the long term.

Nah, there will always be the steady flow of collectors I think. Right now I think we’re in this bubble from the pandemic. A lot of new collectors who got stuck at home and can’t spend their money going out to eat, doing other things so they’ve picked up new hobbies. Some will eventually stop and leave, some will stay… but there’s always going to be a steady flow of people collecting comics, cards and whatever else people collect.

I don’t mind selling my $3 Seasons Beatings for $86 because that was just an opinion on a book and the cover is pretty cool and it does have a lower print run. No lies were told when it was put on a spec list.

What I will not do are things like selling Wonder Woman Annual #4s saying it is the 1st app of Yara Flor just to make a buck knowing full well the info is incorrect.

Yup, pretty much how I feel. If its just the generic pump and dump by others and people are actually willing to spend premium for ans I happen to have a copy, I’ll list to sell for sure.

As I mentioned in the eBay Headaches thread Scott Snyder finished the pilot for Wytches. Regular covers have been selling for around $25.

I sold a second print Wytches #1 for $15. Have a first print listed for $25. Not even touching my NYCC signed 9.6 or my 9.8 (multiple) copies.

Still a great Witter cover though.

This weekend I’ve managed to sell 2 Superman 10 cent adventures. One was a best offer at $15 and now at $20. I’ve bought like 5 online and paid $1 a piece.

I have to list the one I just got out of an Ollie’s comic pack.

Makes me want to go look in Ollie’s packs.

I did keep one. But the others have been taking up space in my duplicates box for years. Glad to finally make a bunch of money off them.

I found a Sectaurs #1 and two Robotech #1s also, not that they are worth anything. But it could be tomorrow.
